Eugene John Streff
Eugene Streff, “Eutch”, of Port Washington, died while vacationing in Florida on March 8, 2016. He was 84 years old.
Gene lived a full life dedicated to his Catholic faith, family, friends and the community. Born November 22, 1931 in Port Washington to Peter Streff and Daisy Decker Streff, he was a life-long resident of Port Washington. After graduation from Port Washington High School in 1948 he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was active during the Korean War. When he returned home after his service commitment, he married his high school sweetheart Elizabeth “Liz” Michels on May 21, 1955 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Port Washington. His wife Liz preceded him in death in June of 2014.
Gene attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee taking business classes in the evening while working with the late Bill Streff at the woodworking company, The Streff Shop. Gene purchased the business and was dedicated to its success up to his retirement in 1995. Gene gave back to the industry, serving as President of the National Kitchen & Bath Association of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan chapter during the 1970’s.
Gene was a devout Catholic and was very active with St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church throughout his life, including being a member of the St. Peter’s Men’s Club and also a 3rd Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. Gene was a former member of the Port Washington-Saukville Rotary Club. and also is a Past Commander of Van Ells-Schanen American Legion Post 82 in Port Washington. He enjoyed outdoor activities pertaining to hunting and fishing and loved to travel with his wife. He adored his grandchildren and always attended their events. He was a devoted Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed going to games with family and friends. In June of 2015, gene participated in the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight to Washington DC honoring past servicemen and women who protected our country. He felt it to be a wonderful experience.
Gene is survived by his children Mary Jo (Mike) Hauser of Random Lake, Kevin (Sharon) Streff of Grafton and Sharon (John) Uselding of Port Washington. He is further survived by his eight grandchildren: Cameron, Natalie and Brennen Streff, Nicole and Michael Hauser and Matthew, Megan and Allie Uselding, three sisters-in-law: Mary Nash of Thiensville, Janice Streff of Port Washington and Renee Streff of Mequon, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his brothers Wally and Lester Streff, brothers-in-law Vincent Michels, Charles Nash and sister-in-law Diane Michels.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 8th at 7 PM at St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church, 1800 N. Wisconsin Ave, Port Washington. Father Pat Wendt will preside over Mass. He will be laid to rest next to his wife Liz at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Port Washington. A visitation will take place on Friday, April 8th at the CHURCH from 3:30 PM until 6:45 PM. A Rosary service and Knights of Columbus Prayer service will precede the visitation at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight ( .
