Obituary

Mr. William Helm, Of Kirchhayn, Town of Jackson, passed away surrounded by his loving family in the evening hours of Monday, February 3, 2020. He was 89 years old. Bill was born in Thiensville, WI on March 18, 1930, son of William C. Helm and Josephine Jahn Helm. Bill grew up in Thiensville and graduated from Cedarburg High School with the Class of 1948. He then completed a short course in Agriculture at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. On January 9, 1954, he married Lois Volkmann at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedarburg. Bill worked as a heavy equipment operator for Louis C. Hoffmann And Son for over 50 years, working well into his mid-70's. Bill was a member of the American Legion Peter Wollner Post 288 in Cedarburg for over 60 years, where he was a past commander. He was also a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedarburg. Bill loved singing, and he used his talents in multiple groups including various church choirs, in the Army, and at school. He also sang for weddings and funerals, including his daughter's and his son's weddings. Bill loved his family with his whole heart and treasured each of his grandchildren. He was an outdoor person, raising a few animals for a hobby and taking care of his property, "Meadowview Acres", constantly while appreciating all of nature. Bill was a soft-hearted person and loyal to his Lord. At the end of his life on earth he probably said, "thank you, and I love you." Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years Lois of Kirchhayn, and his two children David (Colleen) Helm and Nola (Ron) Sella both of Cedarburg. He is further survived by his daughter-in-law Lauri Helm of Jackson, eight grandchildren: Charles, Emily and Billy Helm, Katie (Jake) Bublitz, Mitchell and Nicholas Sella, Kaitlyn (Jake) Krueger and Jeffrey Crawford, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He is preceded in death by his special son Brian, his parents, and two brothers Paul (the late Arlene) and Elmer (the late Adeline) Helm. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, September 11th at 11 AM Trinity Lutheran Church, N60W6047 Columbia Rd. Cedarburg. A visitation will take place at the church on Saturday the 11th from 10 AM until the time of services. A time of fellowship will follow the service at church. A private interment with military honors was held at Immanuel Cemetery, Cedarburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight or the Peter Wollner American Legion Post 288. The Eernisse Funeral Home, Cedarburg, is honored to serve the family.
