William "Bill" A. Holnagel's Obituary

William “Bill” A. Holnagel, a beloved husband, father, and Papa, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 6, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on September 15, 1949, Bill was the son of William and Elda Holnagel.

He was raised in Cedarburg, graduated from Cedarburg High School, and later the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Bill met the love of his life and best friend, Cathy, and they were married on April 2, 1977, recently celebrating their 49th wedding anniversary. In 1980, they moved back to Cedarburg, where they raised two daughters, Kristen and Megan, in the same home for more than 45 years–a house Bill lovingly restored. Bill adored his five grandchildren. He loved hearing about each of their achievements and especially looked forward to the cherished yearly summer week with them on the Chain O’ Lakes.

He had many passions in life. A devoted picker, you could find him in the early hours at Iola, Maxwell Street Days, estate sales and more. He was also a loyal sports fan of all the Wisconsin teams. His enthusiasm for the games sometimes sent Cathy retreating upstairs, while he shared passionate texts with his sons-in-law and friends. Bill loved spending time tinkering in the garage, his early years with the Rods and Relics Car Club, and embraced a love of Harleys and other motorcycles, along with the adventures they brought. He was the ultimate storyteller–give him a little time, and he could captivate you for hours with stories that were as memorable as him. He was everyone’s friend and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cathy; his daughters, Kristen (Oliver) Drake and Megan (Brian) Flad; his grandchildren, Sebastian and Stella Drake, Colin, Molly and Owen Flad; and many dear family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elda Holnagel, and his sister, Karen Uhlig.

A funeral service will be at 2pm on Monday, April 13, at Advent Lutheran Church, W63N642 Washington Avenue in Cedarburg. The family will greet guests from 12pm until the time of service, with a reception immediately following at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Advent Lutheran Church or the charity of donors choice, are appreciated.

Online condolences can be forwarded to the family at www.eernissefuneralhome.com. The Eernisse Funeral Home-Michael Schramka Associate, is assisting the family
