Wayne J. Jelinski
Of Cedarburg, Wayne was born to Eternal Life on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the age of 86. Wayne was born in Milwaukee on November 29, 1938, to Chester and Stella (nee Newton) Jelinski. Oldest of three, Wayne had a younger brother, Robert "Bob" Jelinski, and younger sister, Joni (Jelinski) Bongard.
He graduated from Messmer High School in 1957 as a standout multi-sport athlete. A Hall of Fame inductee, he earned First Team All-Conference honors in basketball, set a single season scoring record, led in steals, and served as captain. He also lettered twice in football as a halfback and cornerback.
Wayne married his best friend, Carol Klas, on August 8, 1959, in Milwaukee. They shared 57 wonderful years before her passing in 2016. A devoted father, son, brother, papa, uncle, and coach, Wayne will be remembered for his competitive spirit and deep love for his children, grandchildren and family.
Wayne is survived by his children Robert Jelinski and Jill (Barry) Jaeger; grandchildren Cody and Brianna Jaeger; sister Joni (Richard) Bongard; sister-in-law Terry Jelinski; nieces and nephews Beth (Matt) Anderson, Andrew (Gina) Bongard, Matthew (Abby) Bongard, Michael (Daniella) Jelinski, along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Chester and Stella, wife Carol, and brother Robert Jelinski.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday October 29 from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Parish-North, 1375 Covered Bridge Road, Cedarburg, WI 53012, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 3:00 PM. Private family inurnment will take place the following day.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Wayne's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Online condolences can be forwarded to the family at www.eernissefuneralhome.com. The Eernisse Funeral Home-Michael Schramka Associate is assisting the family.
