Walter Conrad Capelle (82) of Cedarburg passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 6, 2024. He was born in Sheboygan to Eugene and Ester (Lenhart) Capelle on April 9, 1941. He married the love of his life, Christine (Oldowski), on February 22, 1969, and together they had one son.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jimmy, and sister Barbara.

Those left to cherish Walter's memory are his son Dan, grandchildren (Sophie (John Paul), Gabe, and Grace), great grand-daughter (JoJo), extended family, and friends.

Walter was a quiet person who loved to learn. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of WI – Madison in 1965. His passion for both continued throughout his life and there was a good chance he'd be reading or watching the Badgers (or somehow both) when you saw him.

Walter also enjoyed the great outdoors. While that could be achieved actively by canoeing, hiking, or bird-watching, his favorite activity by far was simply sitting in a chair in the backyard (with a book closed on his lap), feeling the warmth of the sun on his face, and taking a well-deserved nap ("bird-watching was hard work").

Before retiring, Wally worked his entire career in IT as a computer programmer and data analyst. Though he joked that "hummingbirds hummed because they didn't know the words", he was serious when he proudly proclaimed to be the last person on Earth without a cell phone.

The surviving immediate family would also like to thank the many residents of Hamilton House (who welcomed, befriended, and cared for Wally), his medical team and care-givers (who were continuously and compassionately at his side till the very end), and the young girl who would become his heart transplant donor and gave Wally the gift of extended life (an unbelievable 28 years to be exact).

At Wally's request, there will be no services held.
