WALTER BUCHEL Walter Buchel age 83 years of Franzen St. Random Lake died early Friday morning December 8 2006 at his residence. He was born July 10 1923 in Balzers Liechtenstein son of Joseph and Magdelena Nigg Buchel. On September 16 1952 he married Irmgard Handschel in Milwaukee. Walter along with his wife owned and operated Buchel's Colonial House restaurant in Port Washington which they started in 1976. In 1984 their son Joe and his wife Susie took over the restaurant which they sold last year. Walter's father Joseph was the cook for the prince of Liechtenstein. Walter was the youngest of eight brothers and two sisters who grew up in the castle kitchen. Six of the brothers became chefs. One brother stayed in Liechtenstein. Another went to West Bend. Walter and his brothers Gene Louis and Werner opened the Alpine Village Inn in Mequon in 1950. Ten years later Walter and Gene left to start Club Riverside in Mequon. After that restaurant was sold Walter opened the Colonial House Inn in Port Washington in 1976. Walter was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Parish and enjoyed stamp collecting and gardening. Mr. Buchel is survived by his wife Irmgard two children Joseph (Susie) Buchel of Cedarburg and Lori (Jeff) Hubing of Random Lake four grandchildren Benjamin Danielle Christopher and Megan and one brother Joseph of West Bend. He was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday evening December 11 7:00 PM at Our Lady of the Lakes Parish St. Mary's Chapel in Random Lake with Father Richard Cerpich officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery Milwaukee. Visitation at the CHURCH Monday from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials to Our Lady of the Lakes Parish Random Lake Fire Department or Heartland Hospice appreciated.
