Obituary

Wallace Elroy Ney of Hubertus passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday, November 9, 2018 after a courageous battle with lung disease. He was born October 6, 1936, in Silver Creek, Wisconsin, the son of August and Anita Ney. He was the second of three boys. He graduated from Random Lake High School in 1954. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a sergeant from 1954 to 1957. During this time, he served in the Far East Command as a CW operator and Message Center Chief. He received the honor of Marine of the Month in September 1956 for "outstanding devotion to duty, character, conduct, loyalty, and high degree of military discipline and courtesy". In the mid-1970s, Wally served as the President of the Village of Random Lake. During his tenure, he facilitated the creation of the wastewater treatment plant there. While serving as Village President, he was also employed at Krier Preserving Co. in Random Lake where he met his future wife, JoAnn Theis. They married on August 9, 1980. Over the years, Wally worked at several companies selling cars, trucks, and construction and farm equipment. JoAnn passed away unexpectedly at their home just a few days after Wally. Wally enjoyed collecting Ford memorabilia, umpiring softball games, and volunteering at the St. Hubert's House of Horror. Wally was an avid sports fan and liked a good game of cards (particularly sheepshead) along with a good brandy Old Fashioned, sweet with olives. He was a great "Mr. Fix It". Above all, he was an amazing husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his children Julie Ney of Random Lake, Jennifer Backhaus of Sheboygan, Jodi Ney of Random Lake, Jackie Ney of Random Lake, Danielle (Chris) Kleist of Elkhorn, Nathan (Corey) Ney of Menomonee Falls and Kristen (significant other Trent Schoonover) of Sussex; grandchildren Eric Backhaus of Silver Creek, Kyle Backhaus of Silver Creek, Eleanor and Emelia Kleist of Elkhorn. He is further survived by his brother Richard Ney of Random Lake. Wally was preceded in death by his wife JoAnn, parents August and Anita Ney and his brother, Norbert. The family will receive visitors for Wally and JoAnn at the Eernisse Funeral Home in Cedarburg on Tuesday, November 20th from 4:30-7PM (rosary service 4PM), and again at CHURCH ( St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 1200 St. Gabriel Way, Hubertus) on Wednesday, November 21st from 10AM until Mass at 11AM. Mass will be followed by burial at St. Hubert Cemetery, with Military Honors rendered for Wally.
