Mrs. Virginia Niesing of Port Washington, age 74, passed away Saturday evening, February 16, 2019 in the Town of Grafton as the result of a traffic accident.
Ginny was born in Marinette, WI on February 17, 1944, daughter of Alex and Bea Champeau Johnson, Sr. She grew up in Menominee, MI and attended local schools, graduating from Menomonee High School in 1962. She attended nursing school in Marquette, MI on a scholarship that she was awarded based on an essay describing why she wanted to be a nurse.
Ginny met Robert Niesing on a blind date, set up by a friend; they were united in marriage on September 19, 1964 at Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in Milwaukee. The couple settled in Milwaukee and started their family. Mrs. Niesing worked as a LPN at Northwest General Hospital in Milwaukee. The family moved to Port Washington in 1979 and Ginny worked at Heritage Nursing Home and later as a hospice nurse before she retired altogether in 2008. Robert preceded her in death in 2015.
Mrs. Niesing was a member of Grand Avenue United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, photography and spreading good cheer to others with the giving of cards. She was an artist at heart, and liked painting, drawing and sketching.
She is survived by her children Laura (Kenneth) Markley of Beloit and Michael (Sharon) Niesing of Grafton, niece Candice Bugenhagen Shafer of Port Washington, grandchildren Molly & Luke Markley of Beloit, Braden Shafer of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and Sydney Shafer of Port Washington. She is further survived by sister Beverly and brothers Alex (the late Kathy) Jr., Bruce (Cindy), Quentin and Roman "John" Johnson, all of Michigan, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert and her sister Aurilla "Nikki" Bugenhagen.
Funeral Services will be held at 3PM on Sunday, March 3rd at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Avenue in Port Washington. Rev. Janet Hartzell will preside. Ginny will be interred in Union Cemetery the following day. The family will receive visitors at the Funeral Home on Sunday from 1-3PM, with a brief Nurses Honor Guard ceremony preceding the service at 3PM.
If desired, memorials are suggested in Ginny's name to the Ozaukee Humane Society.
