Violette R. Zirbes Vi Violette Vi Zirbes age 89 years of Port Washington passed away suddenly on December 25 2005 at Columbia St. Mary's Hospital in Mequon. Vi was born in Port Washington in March 12 1916 daughter of the late Otto and Nettie Maechtle Behling. Her early claim to fame as she said was being able to skip the third grade and go right into fourth. She spent much of her teenage years playing tennis in the summer and skiing in the winter. On June 24 1939 she married Leo Zirbes at Friedens Evangelical Church in Port Washington. In 1943 Violette her husband and her father started the Behling Zirbes U Pick Your Own Strawberry Farm which they ran until Leo's death in 1981. Vi also worked as a columnist for the Port Pilot for many years and a poll worker at Dunwiddee School for about 35 years. Mrs. Zirbes was a life-long member of Friedens Evangelical Church volunteered as a pink lady at St. Alphonsus Hospital in the gift shop and at the Pebble House for the Chamber of Commerce. She was an avid reader bowler and card player belonging to Bridge Canasta and Poker clubs. Most of all Vi like to walk and until last year walked up to several miles a day. She is survived by her two sons Gary (Marie) and Scott both of Port Washington and four grandchildren Christopher (Amy) Kevin (Andrea) Brian and Jennifer Zirbes nephews other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband her parents and 2 bothers Russell and Claude Behling. Memorial services will be held on Thursday December 29 2005 6 PM at Friedens Evangelical Church 454 N. Milwaukee St. in Port Washington with Pastor Mark Voll officiating. Burial will take place in Union Cemetery in Port Washington. A time of gathering will be held on Thursday the 29th at the church from 4:30 PM until the time of services. In lieu of flowers memorials to Friedens Evangelical Church suggested.
