VERNON R. ARNDT Mr. Vern Arndt of Grand Ave. in Random Lake passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Monday afternoon December 22 2008.nbsp; He was 80 years old.nbsp; Vern was born on July 26 1928 in Random Lake son of Fred and Mary Braun Arndt.nbsp; As a child Vern was baptized and confirmed at the old St. Johnrsquo;s Evangelical and Reformed Church in Random Lake.nbsp; He attended the public schools in town graduating from Random Lake High School in 1947.nbsp; Vern worked at Badger Tag and Label for 2 frac12; years and then held a position with Harnishfager Diesel Marine in Port Washington before being drafted into the United States Army.nbsp; Entering the service in January of 1951 Vern trained with the 45th infantry Division at Camp Polk LA before he was sent to Japan in June for addition training.nbsp; That December he arrived for combat duty in Korea where he remained for nine months.nbsp; After returning home from the service Mr. Arndt returned to Badger Tag and Label as a machine operator and later became a supervisor.nbsp;Vern met Marcella ldquo;Marcierdquo; Dimmer and the couple was united in marriage on October 26 1957 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Dacada.nbsp; The couple settled in Random Lake and raised their family. Vern retired from Badger in1992 with 40 years of dedicated service.nbsp; Mr. Arndt was a member of St. Johnrsquo;s United Church of Christ in Random Lake as well as a member of the Random Lake VFW Post 10820.nbsp; He was currently an honorary member of the Random Lake Fire Department after serving 25 years with the department.nbsp; Vern loved being outdoors maintaining his home and yard.nbsp; He enjoyed feeding and watching the birds especially the hummingbirds listening to polka and classic country western music.nbsp; Mr. Arndt also enjoyed Senior Bowling as well as watching the Packers and othernbsp; local Wisconsin sports teams. Vern is survived by his wife Marcie of Random Lake their five children: Diane (Wayne) Bittner of Saukville Judy (Gerald) Klas of Dacada Jeffrey Arndt of Silver Creek and twins James (Sarah Spieker) of Random Lake and Joan Arndt of Plymouth.nbsp; He is further survived by 11 grandchildren: Jason TeStroete Jamie Justin and Josh Bittner Crystal and Matthew Klas Brittany Jesse Ashley Allison and Alyssa Arndt as well as three great-grandchildren: Devin amp; TruLyn TeStroete and Keana Biever.nbsp; Vern is also survived by his brother Everett (Eppie) Arndt of Plymouth four sisters-in-law: Irmgard Arndt Ilma Arndt Dolores Moegenburg and Lorretta Nothem one brother-in-law Harold Simmelink nieces nephews other relatives and numerous friends.nbsp; He is preceded in death by two brothers Melvin ldquo;Fritzrdquo; and Erwin ldquo;Powerhouserdquo; Arndt. Funeral services for Vern will be held at 1:30PM on Saturday December 27th at Our Lady of the Lakes St. Maryrsquo;s Chapel in Random Lake.nbsp; Father Richard Cerpich will officiate.nbsp; He will later be laid to rest at St. Maryrsquo;s Cemetery in Random Lake with full military honors. The family will receive visitors at the church on Saturday from 11AM until services at 1:30 PM.nbsp; The Eernisse Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.nbsp; Memorials are suggested to the Random Lake Fire Department.nbsp; br /Service:br /pFuneral services will be held at Our Lady of the Lakes St. Mary\'s Chapel in Random Lake on Saturday December 27 at 1:30PM/pbr /Cemetery:br /pVern will be laid to rest at St. Mary\'s Parish Cemetery in Random Lake./p
