Obituary

Verna Oehme, age 89, of Fredonia, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. She followed her husband, Bob, to their Heavenly Home just five hours after his passing.

Verna was born in Milwaukee on January 6, 1936, the first daughter to the late Clifford and Maybelle (nee Hayworth) Hayne. On May 31, 1958, she was united in marriage with the love of her life Robert Oehme at St. John Lutheran Church, Fredonia. Verna was a dedicated wife and loving partner to Bob. They were blessed with 66 years of marriage.

Verna graduated from Solomon Juneau High School in Milwaukee with the class of 1953. After graduating, she worked at Mobile Oil. Verna took a position at Ozaukee County Clerk of Courts Office, working there until her retirement in 1990. She enjoyed commuting with a dear friend and neighbor, Helen Jagow.

She enjoyed being a homemaker, cooking, cookbooks, knitting, reading, traveling, and spending time with Bob. She enjoyed cleaning and keeping everything looking its very best. Verna took great pride in their home and the life they built. Bob and Verna enjoyed traveling and together visited many destinations throughout the country and the world. They enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards, and hosting parties, making memories in their beautiful home.

Verna is survived by her sister-in-law Esther Oehme, four nephews: Mark (Deb) Oehme, John (Ellene) Oehme, Paul (Rhonda) Oehme, and Scot Oehme, and niece Ruth (Steve) Raab. She is further survived by great-nephew Mitchell (Shannon), great-niece Isabella (Tyler), great-niece Molly, and a circle of many loving friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents Clifford and Maybelle Hayne, her five brothers: Donald, James, Richard, Phillip, and Robert Hayne, her sister Judith Hayne, her in-laws Paul and Martha Oehme, her brother-in-law Edward Oehme and sister-in-law Margaret Oehme.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Bob and Verna on Friday, March 28, 2025, at St. John Lutheran Church, 824 Fredonia Ave., Fredonia, with Pastor Marshal Frisque presiding. Visitation will take place at the church from 11 AM until the time of the service at 1 PM.

Verna will be laid to rest with her husband at St. John Lutheran Cemetery Fredonia.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. John Lutheran Church in Fredonia or Fredonia Fire Department.

Verna's family would like to thank our dear family friend Melissa Meier for her compassionate care, as well as Dr. Eernisse, Aurora Medical Center Grafton, Fredonia Fire Department, the Village Point Commons team, Lily Hospice, and the Sharon Richardson Hospice team.

We trust God's perfect timing and find comfort and hope in His promise that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. God has forgiven Verna's sin in the powerful name of Jesus, prepared a place for her, and Verna now rests with Him in Heavenly peace forever.
