Obituary

Thomas I. Holmer, 81, of Port Washington passed away peacefully with his wife and children at his side on Monday, March 12, 2018 from glioblastoma brain cancer at Kathy Hospice in West Bend. He was born on September 26, 1936 to Jacob and Cecelia (nee Wittig) Holmer in Milwaukee. He married Virginia "Ginny" (nee Tews) Holmer on August 16, 1958 and together they had three children. Tom was employed with National Food Stores for twenty years followed by DeGeorge and Holmer Inc., a food brokerage, for twenty-three years. He served in the United States Air Force during the Berlin Crisis. Tom had many interests; He traveled throughout the United States and several places abroad from Norway to Tahiti with his wife Ginny. During retirement they spent several months in Florida each year. On Sanibel Island he collected seashells which he used to create beautiful works of art. His life-long hobbies included bowling, golfing, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed trips to casinos, gardening, playing dominoes and cards. Tom is survived by his wife Ginny, his children, Cheryl Lynn (Michael) Cornell of Port Washington, Kathleen Susan (Mark) Tushaus of Brookfield, Ronald Thomas (Amy) Holmer of Wauwatosa; grandchildren, David and Jennifer Cornell, Benjamin and Thomas Tushaus, Amanda, Sarah and Nicole Holmer; sister, Barbara Librera; brother, John Holmer. He is further survived by nieces, nephews and friends. A Funeral Service for Tom will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Eernisse Funeral Home of Port Washington. The family will receive visitors at the FUNERAL HOME from 11:00AM until the time of service. Immediately following the service, entombment will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Port Washington. The Holmer family would like to extend a special thank you to the staffs at Aurora Medical Center-Grafton, Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center-Milwaukee and Kathy Hospice.
