Thomas D. Greisch, 84, of Port Washington, WI passed away peacefully on October 3, 2017, surrounded by his family.
A lifelong resident of Port Washington, he was born on August 31, 1933 to Mathias and Florence Moegenburg Greisch. Growing up on St. Mary's church hill, he attended St. Mary's grade school. He was frequently called upon to serve mass in the church as well as the St. Mary's convent along with his brothers. One of his fondest memories was ringing the bells of St. Mary's and swinging on the bell rope.
Tom graduated from Port Washington High School in 1951 and from Marquette University in 1955. Following graduation, he began his career at the Port Washington State Bank. He married Mary L. Biever in 1955 in St. Mary's Catholic Church and together raised 5 children. They were married for 62 years.
Tom served 3 years in the US Army, stationed at Fort Benning, GA. Upon returning to Port Washington, he continued his career at the Port Washington State Bank. Tom worked there for 40 years, retiring in 1995 but continuing his service on the Board of Directors until his passing.
Mr. Greisch was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church (presently St. John XXIII Parish). He was instrumental in fundraising for the stained glass windows restoration and the purchase of the new pipe organ among other needed improvements. Tom belonged to the Port Washington Rotary Club where he served many years as its secretary and one term as president. He donated his time and efforts to the Port Washington Historical Society, Friends of Harrington Beach and the Port Washington Jaycees.
Tom and Mary enjoyed the many trips they took to various parts of the world. He enjoyed celebrating holidays and family events at home and spending time relaxing at their lake cottage.
Tom is survived by his wife, Mary, five children: Catherine (Michael) Pohl of Belgium, WI, Christine (Bruce) Maechtle of Port Washington, WI, Mary (James) Monday of Port Washington, WI, Thomas (Maria) of Mequon, WI, and Martha (Robert) Bichler of Gibbsville, WI. He is further survived by fourteen grandchildren: Andrew and Daniel (fiancé Kendall Strupp) Pohl, Craig (Katie) Maechtle, Adam and Sarah Maechtle, Eric Kempfer, Katie, Alison, and Anna Greisch, Larissa, Aimee, Jenna, Natalie, and Collin Bichler, brother James (Jennie) Greisch, sister Carol Peiffer, sister-in-law Lois Greisch, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Mathias and Florence Greisch, brothers Robert and William (Bounce) Greisch, and brother-in-law, Donald "Fissy" Peiffer and parents-in-law Vincent & Agnes Biever.
Visitation will be held at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave. in Port Washington, on Friday, October 6th from 4-7PM. A short visitation will be held at CHURCH on Saturday, October 7th from 11AM until funeral services at 12 noon. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. John XXIII – St. Mary's Catholic Church (430 Johnson St., Port Washington) on Saturday, October 7th at 12 noon. Fr. Patrick Wendt will preside. Tom will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery, Port Washington, WI with Military Honors.
Memorials to St. Mary's Catholic Church (St.John XXIII) building fund are suggested.
