Sylvester N. Weyker Syl Weyker, age 78 years, passed away early Friday morning, October 30, 2015 at his home in the town of Belgium. Syl was born September 11, 1937 in Port Washington, the son of Sylvester F. and Eleanor (nee Schmitz) Weyker. After graduating from Port Washington High School in 1955, he went on to earn a Bachelors Degree from Marquette University in Civil Engineering and a Masters Degree from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee in Transportation Engineering. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1959-1961. On June 11, 1960, he was united in marriage with Anne Haertel at St. Jerome's Catholic Church in Oconomowoc. Sylvester was a 36 year employee of the Ozaukee County Highway Department, 31 of which he served as the Highway Commissioner. Syl was a proud and active member of his community; he was a founding member of Clay Ridge Hunting Club in Belgium, and belonged to the Midwest Fjord Horse Club, the Belgium American Legion Post #412, the Port Washington-Saukville Jaycees, Port Washington Rotary Club, the Wisconsin Highway Commissioners Association, the Wisconsin Trapping Association. He touched many lives through his involvement in 4-H as a leader and a member of the Ozaukee County Fair Board and 4-H Leaders Association. Syl was an avid outdoorsman and conservationist, who enjoyed hunting, trapping and wildlife preservation. He raised Norwegian Fjord horses for 20 years. Syl is survived by his wife Anne and their children: Julie (Robert) Cramer of Oostburg; Joe of Port Washington and Becky Rostron Weyker of Theinsville and their children Lyndy, Nick and Jon; Andrew (Kim) of Appleton and their children Rachel and Ryan; Tim of Lake Church and Sarah of Belgium. He is further survived by 2 brothers: Howard (Jocelyn) Weyker of Sebastopol, CA and Rev. James Weyker, SDS, Tanzania, East Africa, aunt Mary Jane Fechter of Random Lake, uncle Henry (Carol) Schmitz of Grafton, sisters-in-laws, many nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. A Memorial Mass will be held at 6PM on Friday, November 6 at Divine Savior Parish, Holy Cross Chapel, 5330 Hwy B in Belgium. The family will receive visitors at the church on Friday from 2:30-5:45PM. Syl will be entombed at St. Mary Parish Cemetery in Lake Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Ozaukee County 4-H Foundation or the Patient Access Network Foundation, a cancer organization that contributed to Syl's care (panfoundation.org).
