STEPHEN A. POCERNICH Steve Stephen Pocernich age 89 years of the Wisconsin Veterans Home King WI formerly of Port Washington and Oak Creek died Wednesday February 28 2007 at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca. He was born August 1 1917 in Benoit WI son of the late Daniel Pocernich Sr. and Mary Basich Pocernich. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. from December 1941 thru September 1945. On August 3 1946 he married Catherine Klaus at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Ashland. She preceded him in death in 1967. He later married Judith Cottello at St. James Catholic Church in Franklin WI. Steve owned and operated the Chickland Restaurant in Oak Creek from 1950 to 1980. He then moved to Port Washington and served as the assistant Harbor Master until 2000. He is survived by nine children Rev. Eugene Pocernich of Milwaukee Catherine Keyes of Milwaukee Linda Pocernich of Englewood CO Debra (Jon) Lambrecht of Louisville CO Mary Beth (Al) Laurence of Medford OR Stephen M. Pocernich (partner Joseph Bonales) of Providence RI John Pocernich (partner William Biety) of Denver CO Margaret Wuestenhagen (fiance Kevin Horstman) of Boulder Junction and Carrie Ann Pocernich of Milwaukee. He is also survived by ten grandchildren one great grandson two sisters Mary Bonovich of Grand Rapids MN and Katherine Augustine of Moquah WI one brother Joseph (Mildred) Pocernich of Ashland WI nieces nephews other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. A concelebrated Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday March 5 11 AM at St. James Catholic Church 7219 S. 27th St. Franklin with Father Eugene Pocernich presiding and Archbishop Timothy Dolan offering the final commendation. Burial with military honors at Mt. Olivet Cemetery Milwaukee WI. Visitation at the Eernisse Funeral Home 1600 W.
