Obituary

SHIRLEY M. ROWDON Mrs. Shirley Rowdon of Upper Ridge Road in Port Washington formerly of Wilson Ave. in Port and Silver Spring Drive in Milwaukee passed away at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton on Monday evening October 29 2012. She was 82 years old. Shirley was born in Whitefish Bay on September 12 1930 daughter of George and Martha Baehr Chapman. She attended local schools and went on to earn her Nursing degree from St. Mary's School of Nursing (Rochester MN) in 1951. On October 27 1951 she was united in marriage with William G. Rowdon in Whitefish Bay. The couple settled in Milwaukee and started their family. They moved to Port Washington in 1965 and raised their children on Wilson Avenue. Shirley worked at St. Alphonsus Hospital and later at St. Mary's Hospital retiring as the Night Nursing Supervisor in 1995. Bill preceded her in death in 1999. She later moved to Upper Ridge Road. Mrs. Rowdon was a member of St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church in Port Washington as well as a member of the Friendship Group and MENSA. She volunteered with numerous organizations including the Milwaukee Rep. Theatre the Adult Literacy Center the Port Washington Pebble House Meals on Wheels and provided respite care through Interfaith Caregivers. Shirley enjoyed traveling and had traveled all over the US and five other continents. She loved to watch birds paint and go on Mystery Trips with her friends from Personalized Tours. She was an avid reader and also liked to sew crochet do puzzles and watch BBC programs. Mrs. Rowdon is survived by her 7 children: William Rowdon of Vancouver BC Betsy Rowdon of Spokane WA Margaret (Jon) Ninneman of Random Lake Kathy (Tom) Johnson of Fredonia Matt (Jodie) Rowdon of Holy Cross Jaci (Ed) Nadolski of Burlington and Mary (Steve) Holterman of Franklin. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren: Max Isabelle Camille Erin Sarah Ted John Chrissie Bill Dan Kole Dane Megan Jessi Angie Stephanie Matt Austin Emily Lauren Karley Ashlie Martha Luke Melanie and Erik as well as 16 great-grandchildren. Further survivors include her 3 brothers: George (Sandy) Chapman of Somerset WI Robert (the late Pat) Chapman and Don (the late Eileen) Chapman both of Cedarburg sister-in-law Marie Olson Chapman of Clearwater FL nieces nephews other relatives and many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband William and her brother Marvin Chapman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 7PM on Friday November 2 at St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church 1800 N. Wisconsin St. Port Washington. Father Patrick Wendt will preside. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at St. Mary's Mausoleum Port Washington. The family will receive visitors Friday from 5-7PM at CHURCH. Memorials are suggested to Feed America or The Adult Literacy Center 1916 N. 4th St. Milwaukee WI 53212.
