RUTH E. PROWATZKE Mrs. Ruth Prowatzke of Washington Ave. in Cedarburg formerly of West Allis passed away Monday afternoon October 7 2013 at Lasata Nursing Home in Cedarburg. She was 87 years old. Ruth was born in Milwaukee on March 25 1926 daughter of George and Hilda Priese Fluegel. She attended local schools and graduated from Rufus King High School with the Class of 1944. On November 6 1951 Ruth was united in marriage with Carl Prowatzke at Gospel Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. The couple settled in Milwaukee and raised their family. Mrs. Prowatzke had worked as a Teachers Aide for the Milwaukee Public School system. Her husband preceded her in death in 1991 and in 2006 she moved to Cedarburg to be closer to her daughter. Ruth was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Cedarburg where she had also belonged to the L-4 group. She enjoyed reading knitting sewing as well as visiting with and caring for her grandchildren. She is survived by her two children: Mark (Suzanne) Prowatzke of Mill Neck NY and Marlyn (Chuck) Gassert of Cedarburg six grandchildren:Sara (Dan) Wenger Adam Prowatzke Elsa (Matthew) Gumm Heidi (Jacob) Curtis Philip and Carl Gassert. Further survivors include 5 great-grandchildren: Lea Jonas Anneliese Maryke and Naomi sisters-in-law June Fluegel of Waukesha Elaine Fluegel of Aurora CO and Florence Lipski of Littleton CO nieces nephews other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Carl and two brothers: Ralph and Howard Fluegel. Funeral Services will be held at 11AM on Thursday October 10 at the Eernisse Funeral Home 1167 Washington Ave. Cedarburg. The Rev. Mark Rohrback will preside. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Graceland Cemetery in Milwaukee. The family will receive visitors at the Funeral Home in Cedarburg on Thursday from 9-11AM.
