Ms. Ruth Baum, formerly of Milwaukee and Mequon, passed away on Wednesday morning, August 29, 2018, at Ellen's Home in Port Washington, where she has resided for the last three years. She was 85 years old. Ruth was born in Milwaukee on September 17, 1932, daughter of Henry and Katherine Dreith Greenemeier. She grew up on the south side of Milwaukee, attending local schools and graduating from Bayview High School, Class of 1950.
Ruth was united in marriage with William Baum on October 6, 1956 in Milwaukee. The couple bought a home in Mequon in 1966 and raised their children there. Ruth was employed by the Mequon/Thiensville School District as a cafeteria worker for over 30 years, retiring in 2005. Just prior to her retirement, she moved to Port Washington.
Ms. Baum was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting, puzzles and going to Door County with friends. She was an excellent cook and a great baker and enjoyed doing volunteer work as one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Survivors include her six children: Jemmy (Ron) Miller of Shawano, Kim (Jim) Brown of Port Washington, Ned (Peggy) Baum of Littleton, CO, Joel (Corinne) Baum of Grafton, Ross (Athanasia) Baum of Fallbrook, CA and Eve Baum of Johns Island, SC. She is further survived by 11 grandchildren: Jesse, Jolene, Jamie, Alexandra, Jordan, Chelsea, Samantha, Shelby, Zachary, Avery and Trace, 5 great-grandchildren: Ian, Meara, Clover, Jack and Ayla, sisters Marie Steinbrenner of South Milwaukee and Helen Carver of Milwaukee, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. She is preceded in death by infant daughter Dawn, sisters Esther and Martha, and brothers Henry, Victor, Reinhold and Peter.
A Memorial Celebration is scheduled for October 14th at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Port Washington. The family will receive guests after 1:30PM, with services at 2:30PM.
