Mr. Ron Mans of Port Washington passed away Thursday evening, February 1, 2018 while surrounded by his family at Harbor Village. He was 85 years old.
Ron was born in Marinette on September 8, 1932, son of Charles and Elsie Thode Mans. He attended local schools and graduated from Marinette High School, Class of 1950, before proudly serving in the United States Navy during the Korean War. On July 18, 1953, Ronald was united in marriage with Betty Frederiksen at St. James Lutheran Church in Marinette. The couple settled in Marinette and later moved to Port Washington in 1963.
Ron was a lithographer at Continental Can Company in Milwaukee, and later at Northstar Print Group. He retired in 1992. Mr. Mans enjoyed hunting and fishing, and had a passion for carpentry. He helped restore the historic Light Station that graces Port's bluff, and was very active with Habitat for Humanity after he retired. An active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Port Washington, he was known as "the Handyman of the church". Ron was also a member of Van Ells-Schanen American Legion Post 82 in Port Washington.
Mr. Mans is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Betty, their son Randy (Karen) Mans of Fox River Grove, IL, daughter Chris (Steve) Baughman of Brown Deer, grandsons Nick and Alex Mans of Colorado, and Jason (Scott Luther) Baughman of Oregon. He is further survived by other family and many friends. Ron is preceded in death by his parents, brother Bob, sisters Lois and Dorothy, and his good friend Curt Laue.
At Ron's request, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held.
Memorials, if desired, are suggested to Christ the King Lutheran Church or to Habitat for Humanity.
