Junker
August 10, 1934 – May 26, 2024
Roland Nels Junker of Grafton, Wisconsin, entered eternal life on May 26, 2024. He was born in Rhinelander, Wisconsin (home of the Hodag) on August 10, 1934. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Faye (nee Lightfuss) Junker, and loving children Matthew (Veronica) and Ann. He is further survived by his grandson John and sister Lois Junker. Roland was preceded in death by his parents, Nels and Elizabeth (nee Roen), and sister, Raeburn (Ervin) Roehrborn.
Roland and Faye's journey began at Wisconsin State College - Stevens Point, where they attended numerous classes together. In addition to their shared academic pursuits, Roland furthered his education by obtaining an MBA from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee.
Before college, Roland was drafted into the Army in 1956 and stationed in picturesque Heidelberg, Germany. He often told many stories of his time in Europe. His storytelling and quick wit remained vibrant throughout his life.
Roland was an early adopter of computer programming, utilizing punch cards during his time at John Deere. He developed an innovative sheet metal cost-saving program and an earth mover simulator. At Schlitz Brewing Company, Roland's responsibilities even included the enjoyable task of taste testing. Additionally, he was active in the church council and participated in various church groups at House of Prayer Lutheran Church and Pilgrim UCC.
Roland's love for photography was a lifelong passion from a young age. He also had a keen interest in technology, often found engrossed in his computer. He and his family embarked on many memorable road trips together. They explored the country, visiting historical and natural sites. One particularly memorable trip included Gettysburg, Niagara Falls, Boston, Maine, and Quebec.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the compassionate Aurora Hospice nurses and aides, whose care and support were invaluable during this challenging time. In honor of Roland's memory, the family suggests a donation of trees.
Celebration service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Pilgrim United Church of Christ. The family will receive visitors from 11:00AM until the time of the service at Noon. Following the service, Military Honors by the United States Army will be observed.
