It is with sad hearts we announce the passing of our father, Roger Alan Miller, on September 15, 2026, at the age of 92.

Roger was born in the town of Sherman to Raymond and Eleanor (Hammen) Miller. His mother passed away when Roger was just six years old. Roger attended Silver Creek Grade School and graduated from Random Lake High School in 1952. There he met the love of life. He and Sylvia Ahrens were married at Fort Bragg, North Carolina in June 1953 and spent 70 years together before Sylvia passed away in 2024.

Roger's military service took him to Fort Bragg, Fort Dix and then for a full year to Kefiavik/Reykjavik Iceland where he received commendations for his management of officer's mess hall. Upon his honorable discharge, he began a successful career in the manufacturing industry with Tecumseh, Borden's, PCM/Koehring and Square D. He was recognized for his hard work and problem solving as controller/senior systems analyst including the People Who Make a Difference Award for Square D.

As an active member of the former St Paul's Community UCC church in Waubeka, he served as Sunday school teacher and superintendent, initiating a memorization program at each grade level and a monthly newsletter. He also served as church council president and managed the church league softball team.

Roger encouraged the growth/development of children. In addition to his work at church, he and Sylvia were co-leaders for the 4-H explorers project with Little Kohler 4-H and he was active with the PTA supporting the Random Lake Elementary School. Together, he and Sylvia also chaperoned a high school band trip to Florida in 1980.

For 30 years Roger was Santa, visiting businesses and homes throughout the area. He spent weeks familiarizing himself with the latest toys and memorized the name of each child and would share one good thing and one not so good thing that happened during the year (as supplied by the parents). He would always close his visits with his two favorite songs: Jingle Bells and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

Roger and Sylvia maintained a large family garden and an immaculate lawn at the home they built in the Town of Fredonia on a corner of Sylvia's childhood farm. He considered his yard his golf course. He later became a licensed master gardener and in retirement took great pride as groundskeeper for Carlson Tool and Die in Cedarburg. He also planted flowers annually in the shape of a flag on the grounds of the National Flag Day Museum in Waubeka.

In addition to gardening, Roger enjoyed woodworking, vintage farm equipment including his Allis Chalmers B, all things Badgers, Brewers and Packers, reading (especially World War I l history and Tom Clancy) and time spent with his grandchildren at home and at school events.

Roger is survived by his son Todd, a daughter Cindy (David) Barber, and his grandchildren Joseph Barber and Elnore Barber. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 71 years Sylvia and infant twin daughters.

Private family military services are planned for early October with burial at the St Paul's Cemetery in Waubeka, Wisconsin.
