Mr. Robert Burfeind of Grafton passed away Thursday afternoon, January 18, 2018, at Heritage Nursing Home in Port Washington. He was 81 years old. Bob was born in Newberry, MI on May 4, 1936, son of Edwin and Anna Meyer Burfeind. The family moved to Kohler while Bob was young, and he graduated from Kohler High School Class of 1954. While he was attending Valparaiso University, his family moved to Grafton, and when home on summer break he met the girl-next-door. On October 3, 1959, Bob was united in marriage with Rita Seefeldt at Trinity Lutheran Church in Racine. The couple settled in Glendale for a few years before moving to Port Washington. They built a home in Grafton and moved "back" to town in 1967 to raise their family.
Mr. Burfeind worked as a materials manager at Russell T. Gilman, Inc in Grafton (later SKF) for 38 years, retiring in 2000. Retirement brought many travels for the couple, and regular golf games for Bob. He had a group that played every Saturday for many years. Mr. Burfeind was also a member of the Grafton Public School Board for 23 years. He enjoyed going up north to the family cabin near Elcho, spending time on Enterprise Lake, fishing with his grandkids and waterskiing (he had quite the repertoire of tricks!). Other pastimes included watching sports, attending the Milwaukee Rep. Theater, and cheering on the Packers and Badgers.
Robert was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton, where his father had been a pastor for many years. His faith was very important to him, and he served on many boards and committees over the years. He was an Elder for many years, and had also served as Vice President of the congregation.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Rita, and their four sons: Craig (Laurie) Burfeind of Chanhassan, MN, Daniel Burfeind of Wayzata, MN, John (Jennifer) Burfeind of Bayside and Peter (Jillian) Burfeind of Union City, MI. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren: Leah (Patrick) Coveney, Brandon (Laura), Philip, Joel, Colin, Christian, Grace, Joseph, Ella, Jack, Katie, Aaron, Phoebe, Thomas, Vesper and Simon Burfeind, great-grandchildren Daniel & Alice Burfeind, with one soon-to-arrive great-grandchild on the way. He is further survived by sisters Barbara (Roger) Strenger of Plymouth and Marion (David) Erdmann of Hopkins, MN, sister-in-law Marian (John) Steinke of Minoqua, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Rev. Edwin & Anna Burfeind.
Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, January 27th, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 701 Washington St., Grafton. Pastor Luke Anderson will preside. He will be laid to rest in St. Paul Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the CHURCH on Saturday from 9AM until time of services at 12 noon.
Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Concordia University Bible Institute, or the Alzheimer's Association.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Heritage Nursing Home, especially aides Casey and Maddie, for their loving care.
