Obituary

Mr. Richard Strand of Saukville passed away peacefully at his residence late Sunday evening, July 7, 2024, while surrounded by his loving family. He was 90 years old.

He was born in Milwaukee on August 1, 1933, the son of Leonard and Linnette (nee Toombs) Strand. Richard attended local schools and graduated from Custer High School, Class of 1951, before serving in the United States Coast Guard. He later earned his Associates degree in Electronics from MATC.

On August 22, 1953, Richard was united in marriage with Margaret Eichler at Peace Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. The couple lived briefly in Milwaukee before Richard was stationed in Two Rivers where he served as the lighthouse keeper for two years. They moved back to Milwaukee before settling in Saukville in 1968 and raised their family of six children. Recently, Richard and Margaret celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Strand was a service and repairman with Canteen Vending for over 25 years. Richard worked part time as a bartender at Smith Brothers in Port Washington. He and Margaret also ran S&S Foods (formerly Open Pantry) for about 10 years. Richard later drove school bus for Riteway for almost 15 years. He always enjoyed driving the kids to camp and taking the sports teams to their competitions.

Richard was a Charter member of the Saukville Lion's Club and was a former member of the Saukville Moose Lodge, the Saukville American Legion Post 470, and the Wee-Go-Inn Snowmobile Club. He had a talent for woodworking, carpentry, and remodeling and enjoyed helping his family with projects. Richard loved all of the Wisconsin sports teams and was a proud Green Bay Packers season ticket holder.

Survivors include his wife Margaret of Saukville, their children Dale (Rosemary) of Broomfield, CO, Darrell (Lois), Daniel (Patricia), Diana (Jerry) Lorge, all of Port Washington, David (Monica) of Cedar Grove, and Dawn (Jeff) Rowell of Hartford. He is further survived by 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, other family and friends. Richard was preceded in death by brothers Ray and Floyd.
