IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Taurus
O'Flahrity
May 23, 1950 – October 2, 2024
Richard Taurus O'Flahrity, 74, of Port Washington, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, surrounded by the people he loved. He was born on May 23, 1950, in Milwaukee.
Richard lived a life full of simple joys and deep connections. He was a kind and giving man, known for his warm smile and the twinkle in his eye that welcomed everyone who crossed his path. He was passionate about his Irish heritage and took great pleasure in listening to traditional Irish music, especially the Chieftains, whose songs stirred his soul. He had a quirky love for Bazooka bubblegum and Diet Coke, and in times of hardship, he was known to quietly leave pieces of bubblegum for those who needed a small, sweet moment of comfort.
His hobbies revealed his heart. Richard was a gifted crocheter, often creating meaningful, handcrafted items. His most remarkable piece was a glowing rug for the PHDS sensory room, a testament to his creativity and the calming energy he brought to the world. Richard was also a competitive checkers player, known for his skill and strategy. He welcomed any challenger with open arms, often sharing his love for the game through thoughtful discussions after every win. He was thoughtful in every sense—he crocheted tire runners for staff members to keep in their cars during the snowy season, just in case. Nature and animals also held a special place in his heart, especially his beloved cat, "Baby."
Richard's generosity and kindness made him a gentleman in the truest sense, always holding the door for others and greeting them with that unforgettable smile.
Richard is survived by his loving sister, Kathy Leanna, his dear friends Kelly Schowalter, his honorary granddaughter, Emily Schowalter and his other close friends at Prime Horizon, Inc and IGS. His memory will live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.
