Obituary

Mr. Richard Philip Kraft, of Saukville, formerly of Milwaukee, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2016, at the Lawlis Family Hospice Center in Mequon. He was 80 years old. Richard was born on June 26, 1936 to Philip and Pauline (Haar) Kraft in Milwaukee. He attended local schools and graduated from Custer High School in 1955. During his high school years, Richard met his future bride-to-be, Phyllis Zimmers. Following graduation, Richard proudly served in the United States Army from 1955-1958. When he returned from service, he wed his bride in late 1958. Mr. Kraft, known to his friends as "Rooster", started his working career with the Milwaukee Fire Department in 1959 and served his community well. He was able to take advantage of an early retirement in 1986 and the couple moved to Saukville. Retirement opened up opportunities for travel and adventure; Richard and Phyllis traveled throughout the United States, overseas to Europe, and countless other side trips. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and was never at a loss for words offering advice and life lessons to his children and grandchildren. Richard is survived by his wife Phyllis, their children Vicki (Peter) Szpara of Saukville and Joel Kraft of Oostburg, grandchildren Ryan Kraft of Sussex, Gregory Kraft, also of Sussex, Claire Szpara of Saukville and David Szpara of Colorado Springs, CO. He is further survived by his brother James (Joyce) Kraft of Newburg, sister-in-law Doris Kraft of Belgium, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Philip & Pauline, and brother Leroy Kraft. A Celebration of Life will be held for Richard at 3PM on Saturday, August 20th, at Grand Ave. United Methodist Church, 505 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington. Pastor Don Drollinger will preside. The family will receive friends at the CHURCH on Saturday from 1-3PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Grand Ave. United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
