Obituary

Richard J. Harns of Port Washington, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the age of 89. He was born in the Town of Trenton on April 23, 1929 to James and Reta Beatrice (Cole) Harns. Richard was raised with four sisters, Jeanette, Edith, Dorothy and Evelyn "Evie". He graduated from Cedarburg High School in 1948 and was then drafted into the United States Army Corps in 1951. He served in the Infantry Division 45 in the Korean War until he was injured and discharged in 1953. Richard married Marjorie Ansay on October 3, 1953 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. He worked at Josie Feed Supply in Knellsville starting in 1955. Richard purchased the mill in January 1962 and changed the name to Port Feed Supply. He and Marjorie ran the feed mill until late 1986 when it was sold. Richard continued working there for another three years prior to his retirement. After his retirement, he and Margie traveled to many places including, New York, Branson, a cruise to Aruba and many other mystery trips. Richard enjoyed playing sheepshead, teaching his grandkids how to play and being with his family for EVERY family get together. He had great pride and love for his entire family and enjoyed keeping his yard in perfect condition. Richard was a very active member of the Belgium American Legion Post 412 and the Port Washington VFW Post 5373 for over fifty years. He was a commander and a member of the color guard for many years as well. Richard was a long-time member of St. John XXIII Parish – St. Mary's Church, Port Washington. He is survived by his four daughters, Susan (Jerry) Kroeger of Grafton, Mary (Rick) Gburzynski of Germantown, Ann (Dave) Rispalje of Cedarburg and Jean (Scott) Franzen of Fredonia; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn"Evie" Rinn. Richard was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie in 2007, five grandchildren (Michael, Allan, Holly, Jamie and Marie); three sisters, one sister-in-law and five brothers-in-law. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 6:30PM on October 3, 2018 at St. John XXIII Catholic Parish – St. Peter of Alcantara Church (1800 N. Wisconsin St. Port Washington, WI 53074) with Father Pat Wendt presiding. Visitation will be at the CHURCH from 3:00PM until the time of service. Richard will be laid to rest next to his wife at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Port Washington with full military honors.
