Obituary

Richard F. Gluck passed away peacefully at Rocky Knoll Heath Care Center in Plymouth, WI on August 6, 2024, due to complications of Parkinson's Disease. Richard was born on October 25, 1939, to Frank and Marcella "Sally" (nee Leikip) Gluck in Sheboygan. He married Karen Melius on October 29, 1960.

The Gluck family moved to Random Lake when Richard was six. Richard attended school there, graduating from Random Lake High School. He loved sports and participated in all high school sports. After high school he continued to play basketball on the R.L. Lion's Team and played softball in a village league. In future years he took up golf and also found time to coach the Batavia Girl's Softball team to a championship! He refereed many high school basketball games and was a Boy Scout leader for several years while his sons were members. Richard served on the Consistory of St. John's United Church of Christ, Random Lake and was President of Union Cemetery for many years.

Richard was employed at the Random Lake Co Op for 52 years, most of the time delivering fuel to homes and farmers. Although brought up in town, he quickly grew to have great respect for the rural farm community, making many friends with them. He never refused to go out on a cold winter night to deliver fuel to someone who called because they ran out.

Richard was a caring son and son-in-law, helping his disabled father for years and was always ready to help out his father-in-law with farm work when asked. He quickly learned the fine art of stacking bales of hay on a moving wagon!

Together Richard and Karen took their sons on camping trips throughout the U.S. when they were young. In later years, the two of them went on vacations that included Mexico, Dominican Republic, Alaska, Hawaii and a Caribbean cruise. The vacation he remembers most fondly was flying to Hawaii to meet his son Scott, aboard the Navy ship USS Kirk and retuning to the U.S. aboard the ship, as fathers and or sons were invited aboard to return this ship to its homeland after being stationed in Japan. He also remembers fondly the trip to Canton, Ohio with his sons and grandson to see Jerry Kramer inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Richard was always ready for fun with the grandkids. Many mini trips to WI Dells and Door County with the grandchildren, sometimes with their parents and once a summer just with Grandma and Grampa. Richard was a big part of spoiling them to no end as he dragged their inner-tubes up and down all the steps at the Kalahari Resort in the Dells while they giggled the whole way. He also had great fun with them on holiday celebrations and numerous home parties! His love for his family was immense to his final day.

As Dr. Seuss tells us: "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened".

Richard leaves behind his loving wife Karen, his sons Robert (Leslie) Gluck and Scott (Tama) Gluck; grandchildren Clint (Lee) Chilcott, Lauren (Brian) Braaksma, Emily (Christopher) Guy, Madeline (James) Londree, Olivia Gluck, and Owen (Jackie) Gluck; great-grandchildren Jonah and Miles Guy, Noelle Gluck and Charlie Chilcott; sister JoAnn Last; sister-in-law Marcia Fenner and brother-in-law Michael (Sandra) Melius. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Sally Gluck; father and mother-in-law Frederick and Rose Melius; brothers-in-law Larry Last, Claude Bichler and Don Fenner

The visitation and memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at St. John's UCC (98 Random Lake Rd., Random Lake, WI 53075). Visitation will take place at 1:30pm, followed by the memorial service at 4:00pm.
