Richard Joseph "Dick" Corcoran, passed away in Round Rock, TX on September 9, 2021, at the age of 92.
He was born in Providence, R.I. on April 22, 1929, the son of Archibald and Margaret McCormick Corcoran and was a graduate of Hope High School in Providence. As a youth he attended St Joseph Catholic Church, in Providence, where he was an altar boy.
He enlisted in the U.S Regular Army, serving in the Signal Corps and later in the Air Defense Artillery. He transferred to the U.S. Army Reserve, where he received an officer commission. Dick served honorably for 19 years rising to the rank of First Lieutenant.
He began his career with production management positions at ITT and Gorham Manufacturing before taking a production control manager position at Thomas Industries in Sparta, TN in 1964. Transferring to the Electric Sprayit Division in Sheboygan, WI in 1965, he progressed through a number of management positions before becoming Director of Manufacturing and ultimately Vice President of China Operations. After retiring from the company in 1997 he continued working as a consultant for Thomas Industries through 2005, expanding their manufacturing and sales efforts in China as well as overseeing the construction of the firm's new manufacturing facility in Wuxi, China.
Dick was elected to the Sheboygan Area School District Board of Education serving from 1982 – 1988 and as its President from 1984 – 1986. In 2000, he moved to Pflugerville, TX. While there he served on the Board of Adjustments for the City of Pflugerville. He was also President of his neighborhood HOA for two years. In 2010, he moved to Bella Vista, AR and attended St Bernard Catholic Church and was part of Perpetual Adoration, until moving to Georgetown, TX, in 2016. There he attended Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic Church, in Florence, TX.
Dick joined the Elks Lodge in 1974 and was an Honorary Life Member and an Elks National Foundation Permanent Benefactor. Dick enjoyed playing golf, cribbage, and sheepshead and other card and board games with family and friends. He was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed watching them on Sunday afternoons.
Dick is survived by his wife, Peggy Hahn-McElroy, and his six children: Karen Rainone of Cranston, RI, Margaret (John) Perreault, Jacksonville, NC, Richard Corcoran of Kyle, TX, Glenn Corcoran, of West Warwick, RI, Katherine Corcoran (Jose Arruzazabala) of Chicago, IL, and Steven (Marnie) Corcoran of Tacoma, WA. He is also survived by five grandchildren; Jamie, Alaina, Melissa, John, and Shawn, and four Great Grandchildren; Hailey, Ariana, Bella, and Owen.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert, and Alan.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 7th, 2021, at 4:00 PM at St Dominic Catholic Church, 2133 N 22nd St, Sheboygan. Visitation will precede the service from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at the church. After the service the family invites you to gather at the Elks Lodge, 1943 Erie Ave, Sheboygan, from 5:30 – 7:00 PM, to celebrate Dick's life.
