Rev. Arthur Senn, of Oshkosh, formerly of Port Washington, passed away into the waiting arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, during the evening hours of Monday, October 7, 2019 at Bella Vista Assisted Living Facility. He was 92 years old.
Arthur was born in Memphis, TN on January 1, 1927, son of Otto Senn and Marguerite Sippel Senn. He grew up in Memphis, and after graduating from high school, attended college at St. John's Lutheran College in Winfield, KS, and then Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO, graduating in 1952. He was ordained into the office of the Holy ministry of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod at his home congregation, Trinity Lutheran Church in Memphis, TN on July 6, 1952.
On June 15, 1952 he married Olga Ripke at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ridgeville Corners, OH. The couple faithfully served their Lord together until Olga's passing in 2018.
Pastor Senn, known to many as "The Rev", was an active congregational minister for over 48 years, serving congregations in Arlington, TX, Wauseon/Liberty Center, OH, and Ottawa, Canada. He also served many congregations in Wisconsin, including Fredonia, Manitowoc, Neshkoro, and Hancock. He came out of retirement in 1989 to establish Calvary Lutheran Church, a mission congregation in Princeton. He finally retired from active ministry in 2000 but continued serving the Lord in various ways including camp and devotional services at Lake Puckaway, Harbor Club in Port Washington and Bella Vista in Oshkosh.
In addition to his parish ministry, Pastor Senn was active in the Lutheran Laymen's League, as a Pastoral Advisor and board member of the Lutheran Children Friends Society. He was also a member of the Lion's Clubs in Fredonia, Manitowoc and Neshkoro.
Pastor Senn is survived by his five children: Katherine (Robert) Stuyck of Rockford, IL, Ruth (Richard) Pappas of Battle Ground, WA, Michael "Mick" (Mary) Senn of Fond du Lac, Vivian (Craig) Mittelstaedt of Oshkosh, and Judith (John) Behlke of Oak Creek. He is further survived by 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Olga, one brother Otto Senn Jr., and his sister Dorothy McDowell.
Funeral services will be celebrated on Saturday, October 12th at 11 AM at St. John Lutheran Church, 824 Fredonia Ave., Fredonia. Rev. Marshal Frisque will preside over the services. He will be laid to rest next to his wife in St. John's Cemetery, Fredonia. Visitation will take place on Friday, October 11th, from 4-7 Pm at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington, and on Saturday, October 12th at the Church from 10-11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Dakota Boys Ranch or the The Lutheran Heritage Foundation.
