Obituary

Remig Lorenzo Raffanti, age 58, of Grafton, WI, passed peacefully with his wife by his side on April 23, 2026 after valiantly fighting a long and courageous battle with cancer, displaying extraordinary courage and tenacity- never once fighting alone.

Remig was born in Highland Park, Illinois on August 12, 1967 to Gilberto and Margarete Raffanti. He grew up in Highwood, Illinois, and spent time as a child living in Lucca, Italy where he was immersed in his father’s rich Italian culture. He graduated from Highland Park High School, received his bachelor's degree in Marketing Communications from Loyola University of Chicago and his MBA from Cardinal Stritch University.

Before his college studies, he spent years as a mechanic. He loved the open road and the honest work of driving a tow truck. Yet his ambitions and intellectual curiosity ran wide. He was a gifted man who could move effortlessly between the two worlds. He was equally at home with tools as he was navigating the complexities of corporate life. Following his diagnosis he formed his own business, rSquare, a website design firm, channeling his creative, marketing and technical skills. He generously donated his time to organizations that were making a difference, designing websites for small businesses and non profits. He believed all businesses, especially the small ones, deserved a beautiful website. He understood that a good life isn’t measured by what you earn, but by what you give. Through every chapter- the garage, the road, the classroom, the office, his wife Lynn was there beside him.

Remig came into the world richly blessed. The son of a German Mom and Italian Dad, he grew up steeped in two proud traditions, inheriting the best of both. These include a strong work ethic, reliability, warmth, passion, generosity, culinary mastery, resilience, and both an analytical and creative mind. He grew up as an only child, but life had something wonderful waiting for him. Although he didn’t realize it at the time, in grade school he met the woman who would become the love of his life. Their early devotion to each other set the tone for everything that came after; he not only gained a wife but also a family, two sisters, two brothers and in-laws who all adored him.

Madeline and Michael shared precious years with their Dad. Whether they were cooking together, watching football, discussing culture and foreign languages, or watching their favorite shows, Ted Lasso, Modern Family, Shrinking; their Dad brought them as much joy as they in return gave him. Both kids shared his love for all of the above and grew up with a deep appreciation for his diverse intellect. Their dogs Maggie and Oli followed Remig wherever he went, both remaining close by his side during the most challenging times.

A portrait of extraordinary strength and perseverance he never surrendered. He was a warrior exhibiting the kind of courage that despite the indignities the illness faced upon him, got up every single day and kept going magnificently undefeated for 19 years. This is a testament of his immense character and deep inner strength. His greatest source of strength was the support of his wife and children. They were not just support, they were his reason. Every difficult moment had a meaning because of them and they in turn were profoundly shaped by witnessing his grace under pressure and learned about love, resilience, perseverance and dignity from him.

He was preceded in death by his father Gilberto Raffanti; father-in-law, Ben Mordini; Brother-in-law, David Mordini.

Remig is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 34 years Lynn Mordini Raffanti, whom he married on October 5, 1991; His children, Madeline Raffanti and Michael Raffanti; mother Margarete Raffanti; mother-in-law Ann Mordini; brother-in-law, Gary Mordini; sisters-in-law Karen Schnorr (Roger); Susan Mordini Kordek; nieces and nephews Andrea (Shawn), Scott, Julia, Marisa, Vincent, Sara, Ben; great niece and great nephew, Cam and Rose; and lifelong best friend Vince Piagentini.

Remig loved music deeply, especially the Beatles. In their words he found joy and meaning that seemed written for a man like him .

“And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light that shines on me, shining’ until tomorrow, let it be” -The Beatles
