Ray was born April 14 1918 in Campbellsport Wisconsin to Henry and Flora (Kohler) Scholler. He moved to Random Lake at the tender age of two weeks. He graduated from Random Lake High School in 1936. He attended Mission House College (now Lakeland College) with the dream of becoming a doctor. As money was tight he never attained his dream. He returned home and joined his father and brother in the printing business. He also attended Keating tech (printing school) and Winona School of Photography and Lakeshore Technical College. He married Bernice Zimmermann on June 14 1941 at St Mary's Catholic Church in Random Lake. She preceded him in death on May 11 2014. He was born to eternal life on September 20 2015. He is survived by his four children: Judy (Bill) Mueller Random Lake Jack (Dawn) Scholler Random Lake Jean (Don) Vetter Random Lake Jim (Brenda) Scholler Cedar Grove his twelve grandchildren: Scott (Bobbi) Mueller Random Lake Kay Mueller (special friend Scott Risch) Random Lake Kelly (Larry) Killian Random Lake Shawn (Theresa) Scholler Cedar Grove Robbie (Wendy) Scholler Random Lake Sheila (Bradd) Hemker Grand Rapids MI Rachel (Chris) Rautmann Saukville Mike (Connie) Vetter Random Lake Jamie Scholler Random Lake Andy Scholler Sheboygan Daniel Scholler Cedar Grove and Kristen Scholler Cedar Grove and 20 Great-Grandchildren and also his sister-in-law Betty Reul Random Lake. He was preceded in death by his wife his parents parents-in-law brothers Lorenz and Henry Jr. sister Thelma Johnson brothers-in-law Don Johnson Dick Zimmermann and Howie Reul sisters-in-law Ione Bubb Ione Scholler and Barb Zimmermann and niece Polly Scholler. Times Printing Co. was started by Ray's father mother (H. C. Flora Scholler) as a local newspaper but Ray Bernice expanded the business to become one of the top 100 largest printing companies in North America. It was a team effort - both providing the skills and drive to keep the business growing. Ray was still visiting the plant on an almost daily basis until the last two weeks. Ray received the Businessman of the Year Award from Firstar Bank in 1994. Ray was inducted into the Printing Impressions/RIT Hall of Fame in 2002. Ray Bernice also operated Scholler Photography Studio located in Random Lake to provide extra income for their growing family. Ray Bernice were very active in the Experimental Aircraft Association for over 50 years. Ray received many awards for his dedication to EAA and its mission including the Freedom of Flight Award and many recognition awards by EAA and its Divisions while he served on the Board of Directors and International Vice President for over 40 years. Ray Bernice spent countless hours promoting EAA and volunteering for any task that needed to be done to ensure the success of each Fly-In. Camp Scholler on the EAA grounds was named after Ray Bernice in 1988. Ray Bernice were co-owners of several airplanes but loved their own Beechcraft Debonair Debbie 918T. Ray loved to take the plane for a quick trip on a weekend and take his kids and grandkids for a ride. They enjoyed all of the friendships that were formed with people from around the world and visiting towns throughout the country assisting at various air shows and EAA Chapter events doing whatever needed to be done. He especially enjoyed working at the Reno Air Races with their best friends Paul Audrey Poberezny. Ray was well known in the Community for all of his time and talent contributions - especially in the Random Lake Fire Department. He joined the Fire Department in 1938 and was still listed as an active member. He was one of the first four EMTs in Random Lake in 1974 along with his son Jack. He led the fund raising to purchase the first ambulance and was the First Captain of the Rescue Squad. He received the Firefighter of the Year Award from the American Legion and the Wisconsin EMT of the Year award in 1996. Ray was also a Charter Member of the Random Lake Lions Club formed in 1952. Ray Bernice received the Key to the Village in 1989. Ray served in the U. S. Army training in the infantry and transferred to Military Intelligence. He served as American Legion Commander and was the 40 and 8 Chef de Gare. These are just the highlights of Ray's life and his dedication to serve others throughout his life. There is not enough paper to print all of his achievements. We know where he is and that is with his greatest love - his Snookums. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 5PM on Sunday September 27th at Our Lady of the Lakes St. Mary's Chapel 230 Butler Street Random Lake. Father Richard Cerpich will preside. Ray will be buried with Military Honors beside his wife in the parish cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the CHURCH on Sunday from 1-5PM. Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers. There is a walk-through scheduled at 3PM for Random Lake Fire Department Badger Firefighters Association and American Legion Post 145.
