Raymond E. Merzdorf passed away peacefully on July 22, 2017 at Dekora Springs Assisted Living in Saukville, where he had lived the past 5 years. He was 95 years old. Ray was born to Paul and Lena (nee Parnitzke) Merzdorf on October 20, 1921 in the Town of Fredonia. He lived in the Waubeka-Fredonia area nearly his entire life. Ray was united in marriage to Florence Rose Heimerl on December 13, 1941. They had two children, Arlene and Patricia. Ray worked at Gilson's in Fredonia and later retired from Modern Equipment, where he worked for 29 years. He and Florence also operated Merzdorf Service Station in Waubeka for 50 years. Ray was very mechanical and spent hours in his garage repairing whatever was brought to him. He designed and built many large pieces of equipment and enjoyed gardening, sheepshead, and polka music. Ray is survived by his sister Meta Harrington of Brookfield; daughters Arlene (Irvin) Brandt of Cedarburg and Patricia (Daniel) Nysse of West Bend; grandchildren: Christa (Eric) Hackert, Irv Jr. (Jennifer) Brandt, Robert (Heather) Brandt, Cynthia (Richard) Uhlig, Sara (Clark) Kleinhans, and Rachel (Jason) Pokorny. He is further survived by 11 great-grandchildren: Ashley and Kyle Hackert, Benjamin Brandt, Jack, Jon, and Lilly Brandt, Carisa and Kaylee Kleinhans, Evan, Owen, and Aiden Pokorny; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ray is preceded in death by his wife Florence; brothers Marvin and Arnold Merzdorf; and sisters Mildred Merzdorf and Norma Janz. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at St. John's Lutheran Church (824 Fredonia Ave. Fredonia, WI 53021) with Pastor Zick presiding. Visitation will be at the CHURCH from 9:30AM until the time of service. Entombment will take place at Wisconsin Memorial Park. Memorials are appreciated to St. John's Lutheran Church in Fredonia.
