Obituary

Mr. Ray Flaherty of the Town of Port Washington passed away at his home Thursday afternoon, June 5, 2025, while surrounded by his loving family. He was 94 years old.

Ray was born on February 27, 1931, in Lucas, SD, the son of Albert and Kathryn (nee Smith) Flaherty. Following his schooling, Ray enlisted in the US Army and served in Korea.

On December 3, 1955, Ray was united in marriage with Geraldine "Gerry" Deshayes at Crosby Assembly of God in Crosby, MN. The couple moved their young family to Port Washington in 1971.

Ray was an integral member of the Flaherty Chevrolet and Oldsmobile dealership on the south side of Port Washington for many years. He was an active member of Portview Church. In his downtime, Ray loved hunting and fishing, and was an avid water-skier. He was still skiing at the age of 88!

He is survived by sons Mark Flaherty of Port Washington, Mike (Cheryl) Flaherty of Kenosha, and daughter Kay (Kent) Frey of Cambridge, WI. Ray is further survived by five grandchildren: Mitchell, Katelyn (Andrew), Tyler, Alexis, and Christopher, great-grandson Kevin, brothers Wayne (the late Elaine) and Leland (Nancy), sister-in-law Esther Engl, nieces, nephews, other family and many friends. He is preceded in death by his wife Gerry, brothers Lester, Howard, and Harvey (the late Eleanor), and sisters Helen (the late Gene) Briggs and Gladys (the late Don) Brodrick.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4PM on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Portview Church, 3457 County Road LL in Port Washington, followed by military honors. The family will receive visitors at the church on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, from 2PM until services begin at 4PM.

If desired, memorials are suggested to Portview Church in Ray's name.

The family would like to extend their warm gratitude to Kindra and the staff at Horizon Hospice for the wonderful care they gave to Ray.

The Eernisse Funeral Home is honored to assist the family with arrangements; online condolences may be left at www.eernissefuneralhome.com .
