Paul Brunnquell, of Port Washington, a dedicated family man and community leader, peacefully passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Milan Estates in Saukville. He was 92 years old.
He Born on March 20, 1931, in Milwaukee to Herbert and Helen (nee Bretcher) Brunnquell. Paul grew up on the family farm in Port Washington and graduated from Port Washington High School in 1949.
On May 4, 1957, Paul married the love of his life, Elvira Marth. The couple started their family of five boys on the family dairy farm, Century Acres.
In 1964 Paul sold off his dairy herd to concentrate on raising chickens for egg production. He sold eggs to many restaurants in the area. His farming peers voted him Outstanding Young Farmer in Ozaukee County. Paul was very happy to have his sons and their families follow him onto the farm and very proud of his sons that chose to follow their own path.
Throughout his life, Paul touched the lives of many through his various roles and contributions. He is a current member of St. Paul Lutheran church in Grafton, and a former President and Elder of St. John's Lutheran Church in Port Washington. Paul shared his deep faith by serving as a Sunday school teacher and singing in the church choir.
Beyond his religious involvement, Paul made a lasting impact as a longtime 4H leader for the Knellsville 4H Club. He passionately guided and mentored generations of young minds, instilling in them valuable life skills, responsibility, and leadership qualities. Paul's dedication led him to become the President of the 4H Leaders Association, further solidifying his commitment to fostering growth and potential in others.
Paul's dedication to education extended beyond the realm of 4H, as he served as the President of the Port Washington Saukville School Board. Through his leadership, he advocated for the success and well-being of the students, ensuring they had the resources and opportunities to thrive academically and personally.
Paul served as a member and chairman of the Farm Credit Bureau, playing a vital role in supporting local agriculture and ensuring the prosperity of farmers in the region. Additionally, his commitment to public service was evident through his membership on the Ozaukee County Board.
Paul's legacy lives on through his loving family. He will be dearly missed by his wife Elvira, their sons: David (the late Robin), Daniel (Debbie), James (Catherine), John (Cathy), and Mark (Patti) Brunnquell. He is further survived by 16 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, his sister Elizabeth Gersonde, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Gertrude (the late Harold) Bloecher, his daughter-in-law Robin, and his brother-in-law Richard Gersonde.
To honor and celebrate Paul's remarkable life, funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM until 1:30 PM, with the funeral services starting at 1:30 PM.
Rev. Dr. Timothy Maschke will preside over the funeral service.
He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Grafton.
In memory of Paul's extraordinary contributions, his family kindly requests donations in lieu of flowers be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Ozaukee County 4H Foundation.
