Mr. Pat Thelen of Saukville passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday morning, December 1, 2019. He was 72 years old. Patrick was born in Port Washington on March 12, 1947, son of Bernard and Amanda Esselman Thelen. He attended local schools and served in the Viet Nam War with the US Army.
On July 24, 1982, Pat was united in marriage with Mary Dondero at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Cedarburg. The couple settled in Saukville.
Mr. Thelen worked as an architectural sheetmetal worker for Sheetmetal Local 18 in Milwaukee for over 30 years. Pat was an active member of Landt-Thiel American Legion Post 470. He was inducted into the Port Washington High School Wall of Honor in 2015, was named Legionnaire of the Year in 2017, and went on the Stars & Stripe Honor Flight on May 11, 2019. He enjoyed hunting, playing cribbage and sheepshead, shooting trap, bowling, camping and shooting pool. He also played on the Saukville Men's softball league. Pat was an avid fan of the Bucks, Brewers, Badgers and Packers. He and Mary enjoyed traveling with friends to many sporting events. Everyday he enjoyed walks with his dog, Maxi. Pat will be remembered for his witty humor, willingness to always help, and his love for his family.
He is survived by his wife Mary, five sisters: Marilyn (the late Leroy) Averill, Rita (Clete) Schneider, Kathy (Don) Harmeling, Maryann (Dave) Schowalter, and Erla (Ron) Schneider, three brothers: Gerald (Kay) Thelen, Charles "Bud" (Joan) Thelen, Richard (Barb) Thelen, brothers-in-law Andy Dieringer and Dan Tedesco, brother-in-law Paul (Sue) Dondero, as well as numerous other family and friends. He is preceded in death by sisters Audrey Dieringer, Lois (the late Marvin) Anzia, Ruth Tedesco, and brothers Danny (the late Nancy), Cliff (the late Marty) and Bill Thelen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 6PM on Thursday, December 12 at St. John XXIII – Immaculate Conception Church, 145 Church Street in Saukville, followed by Military Honors. The family will receive visitors at the CHURCH on Thursday from 3-6PM. There will be an American Legion walk-through at 5PM. Pat will be laid to rest at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King at a later date.
Memorials, if desired, may go to a military organization of the donors choice.
