Obituary

OSCAR A. SCHMIDT Mr. Oscar Schmidt of Hwy D in the Town of Belgium passed away surrounded by his family at Cedar Grove Gardens on Sunday evening April 2 2006. He was 86 years old. Oscar was born in Port Washington on June 1st 1919 son of Charles and Clara Krier Schmidt. In 1941 he joined the US Navy and served through 1943. On June 29 1946 Oscar was united in marriage with Dolores Feider at St. Nicholas Catholic Church Dacada. The couple settled in the Town of Belgium started their farm and raised their family. After Oscar left farming he did general carpentry repair and house painting. He hobbied in woodworking and was known for tractor mailbox construction. Oscar was also known for his quick wit and his great sense of humor. Mr. Schmidt was a member at St. Mary Catholic Church Lake Church the Catholic Order of Foresters and the American Legion Belgium Post #412. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Dolores their 3 children: Linda (Richard) Rose of Cedar Grove Pat (Jerry) Moriarity of Plymouth James (Debra) Schmidt of Cedar Grove and the late Jack Schmidt daughter-in-law Kathy Schmidt of Cedar Grove 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by 3 brothers: Melvin (Carmen) of Texas Lester (Annie) of Jefferson and Ralph (the late Joan) Schmidt of Belgium 2 sisters: Olive Watry of Belgium and Clarice (Frank) Bucholz of Grafton 1 sister-in-law Betty Schmidt of Florida nieces nephews other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his son Jack 4 brothers: Myron Nicholas Carl and an infant brother 3 sisters: Carla Mueller Ann Watry and an infant sister. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday April 6 10:30 AM from the Funeral Home going to Mass at St. Mary Catholic Church Lake Church for Mass at 11 AM. Father James Vojtik Father James Ernster and Father Dennis Van Beek will officiate. He will be laid to rest in the parish cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the Eernisse Funeral Home 171 N. Royal Ave. (Hwy LL Park St.) in Belgium on Wednesday from 4-8PM and again on Thursday 9:30-10:30 AM. A Prayer vigil will take place Wednesday at 7:30 PM. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the many wonderful physicians at Aurora Clinic who attended Oscar over the years especially Dr. Kuttickat and the staff of the Aurora Visiting Nurses Hospice Service who were so kind to Oscar at the end of his life.
