OLAF NIELSEN Ole Nielsen of Madison Ave. in Port Washington passed away at Heritage Nursing Home early Tuesday morning August 23 2011. He was 77 years old. Olaf was born in Kiel Germany on September 12 1933 son of George and Gertud Gedrt Nielsen. When he was 18 Ole immigrated to the United States. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon his return he met and married Dorothy Vixmer. They were united in marriage on June 28 1958 at Friedens Evangelical Church in Port Washington. The couple settled in Port and raised four children. Ole was a cabinet maker and carpenter working at August H. Wulf Company in Milwaukee for over 40 years. When he had lived in Germany he had played semi-pro soccer. He later played in Milwaukee as well and had been instrumental in starting the Port Washington High School soccer program. He coached for many years and helped many kids in the area enjoy the sport. Ole also enjoyed bowling and playing baseball. Mr. Nielsen was a member of Friedens Evangelical Church in Port Washington and was also a member of the Van Ells-Schanen American Legion Post 82. When he wasn't working or playing sports Ole enjoyed reading the newspaper. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Dorothy and their four children: Diane (Kim) Keller of Belgium Linda Nielsen of Port Washington Karl (Ute) Nielsen of West Bend and Steven (Dawn) Nielsen of Necedah WI. He is further survived by 4 grandchildren two sisters: Ingrid (Ted) Payne and Giesila Sommer both of Germany nieces. nephews other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother Uwe Nielsen. A Memorial Service will be held at 5PM on Thursday August 25th at Friedens Ev. Church 454 N. Milwaukee St. Port Washington. Pastor David Toeller will officiate the service. The family will receive visitors at the CHURCH on Thursday from 4-5PM. Memorials are suggested to Friedens Evangelical Church in lieu of flowers.
