Obituary for Richard W. Birenbaum

Mr. Richard Birenbaum, of County Highway RR in the Town of Holland, passed away surrounded by family Thursday morning, January 21, 2016 at Rocky Knoll Health Center in Plymouth. He was 87 years old. Richard was born on the family farmstead in the Town of Holland on May 2, 1928, son of John and Susan (Feyereisen) Birenbaum. He attended Fairview School in the Town of Holland and St. Nicholas School in Dacada after which he worked with his parents on their farm. He served his country in the United States Army from 1952-54, stationed in Germany for one year during the Korean War.
On October 10, 1959 Richard was united in marriage with Shirley Biever at St. Rose Catholic Church in Fredonia. The couple moved onto the farmstead and started their family, raising them with strong faith and work values. Richard was a lifelong dairy farmer, an occupation he was proud of and loved deeply. Richard had a great sense of humor and “always had an answer for everything”. He enjoyed woodworking, listening to polka music and loved playing a good game of sheepshead. Richard especially enjoyed being with his family and was a great husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Shirley, and their ten children: Paul Birenbaum of Cedar Grove, Perry (Sue) Birenbaum of Cascade, Leon (Lisa) Birenbaum of Random Lake, Patricia (Andy) Nielsen of Bourbonnais, IL, Ann (Paul) Sanford of Duluth, MN, Roger (Lori) Birenbaum of New Berlin, Dale (Connie) Birenbaum of Newton, Scott (Jill) Birenbaum of Plymouth, Brian (Debbie) Birenbaum of Plymouth and Bruce (Traci) Birenbaum of Adell. Also surviving are 30 grandchildren: Hannah, Joe, Mathew (Amanda), Marie, Jacob (fiancé Alexia), Madelene, Samuel, Jon (Emily), Doug (Katie), and Andy Jr.(Laura), Margaret, Clara, Richard, Michael, Nick, Noah, Allyssa (fiancé Jacob), Zachary, Owen, Joshua, Jenipher, Ashley, Michael, Megan, Sarah, Bailey, Payton, Tanner, Dakota, Bristol and 7 great-grandchildren: Lizzy, Megan, Charlotte, Joshua, Joseph, Cameron, Grace, Further survivors include brother Vincent Birenbaum of Random Lake, brothers-and sisters-in-law Mary Ann (Walter) Thill of Fredonia, Adelia (the late Richard) Hartman of Port Washington, Luella (Steve) Harter of West Bend, Allen (Liliana) Biever of Port Washington, Trudy (the late Gary) Carlson of Duluth, MN, Jim (the late Eleanor) Yax of Lakeside, AZ, and Roseanne (the late William Jr.) Biever of Fredonia. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Joseph (the late Beatrice), Clem (the late Patricia), Ray (the late Claire), Eugene (the late Alice), sister Marie (the late Alvin) Wollner and sister-in-law Ellen Biever.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 6:30 PM on Monday, January 25th at Our Lady of the Lakes -St. Nicholas Chapel, Dacada (W4274 County Road K, Random Lake). Father Richard Cerpich will preside. Richard will be laid to rest the following day with military honors at St. Nicholas Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the CHURCH on Monday from 3-6:15 PM. Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers. The Eernisse Funeral Home in Belgium is assisting the family with arrangements.
