Jagow

Norman B. "Smokey" Jagow, of Fredonia, peacefully passed into eternal life at his home during the late afternoon hours of Friday, December 16, 2022. He was 97 years old.
Norman was born in Anamoose, North Dakota on January 27th, 1925, son of Rev. Reinhard and Esther Baese Jagow. The family moved to Fredonia in 1933 where he spent the remainder of his life. Norman attended St. John Fredonia grade school and Random Lake High School graduating in 1943. Following high school, he was drafted into the Army and served in the 35th Division of the 137th Infantry Regiment. On March 4th of 1945 following a firefight in Belgium, he was taken prisoner and held in Stalig 12A until his liberation in April of 1945. Following the war, he returned home and married Audrey Runkel of Cedarburg at First Immanuel Church on June 13, 1954, and together they made their home in Fredonia raising their six children.
Norman worked for many years as the parts manager at the old Columbia Garage and later at Flaherty Chevrolet, both in Port Washington. In his later years, he worked as a custodian at Homestead High School in Mequon. Norman had many interests including gardening, woodworking, fishing, and auto repair. Above all his passion was for his family and faith. He was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Fredonia, where he was the cemetery sexton for over 20 years. Norman was also a member of Warren Kane American Legion Post in Fredonia and the Fred A Schaefer Post 1393 Veterans of Foreign Wars in West Bend.
Norman is survived by his six children: Elizabeth (John) Karrels, Carl Jagow, Steven (Kathryn) Jagow, Thomas (Carol) Jagow, Kathleen (John) Berg, and Eric (Karalyn) Jagow. He is further survived by 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, his sister Concordia Muller and brother Frederick Jagow. He was preceded in death by his wife Audrey, parents Rev. Reinhard and Esther Jagow, sisters Ruth Scholz, Helen Jagow, Phoebe Scholz and brother Theodore Jagow.
Funeral services will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 28th at 12 Noon at St. John Lutheran Church, 824 Fredonia Ave., Fredonia. Pastor Marshal Frisque will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of services. He will be laid to rest with military honors in St. John Lutheran Cemetery.
