Nancy Mersereau Nancy Baye Mersereau age 75 years of Port Washington passed away unexpectedly on Thursday February 19 2009 at her residence.nbsp; She was born in Green Bay on January 25 1934 daughter of Wilfred Baye and Leona Rondeau Baye. She was very proud of her Green Bay roots especially the fact that she was one of the first Green Bay Packer cheerleaders.nbsp; nbsp;After graduating from high school in Green Bay in 1951 Nancy attended the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth MN graduating in 1956.nbsp; She taught English at Antigo High School and also in El Paso TX and Pulaski WI.nbsp; On December 27 1958 she married John Mersereau in Green Bay.nbsp; In 1970 the couple moved to Port Washington where Nancy started her career in journalism at the Ozaukee Press.nbsp; She retired from The Press in 2001 as the Managing Editor.nbsp; She continued to write a monthly column for the Sheboygan Press up until her death.nbsp; Nancy was very active in her profession.nbsp; She was active in the Wisconsin Newspaper Association serving as President in 1992-93 and was also a former State Chairperson for the National Newspaper Association.nbsp;nbsp; Nancy served on the committee that helped write the open records law for the state of Wisconsin and also the committee that recommended to the State Supreme Court that cameras be allowed in court rooms. Mrs. Mersereau was also very active in her community serving on the Board of Directors for the Port Washington-Saukville United Way Port Fish Day Friends of Niederkorn Library and the Port Washington Historical Society. nbsp; Survivors include her sons Mark (Merla) of Port Washington and Thomas (Louise) Mersereau of Lindale TX 8 grandchildren: Ashley Brandon Tyler Erik Carlton Klarissa Tanner and Caitlyn and 2 great-grandchildren Kaden and Skyler.nbsp; She is further survived by 3 brothers: Thomas (Yvonne) Baye of Green Bay Michael (Karen) Baye of Green Bay and Joseph (Roberta) Baye of Ladysmith 3 sisters: Mary Ann (Ronald) Mandich of Green Bay Kathleen (William) Hendricks of Eagle River Carol (Norris) Jones of Oshkosh her aunt Connie (the late Bernard) Baye of Green Bay nieces nephews other relatives and many friends.nbsp; She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband John her nephew James Hendricks and an infant niece Mary Martha Mandich. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday February 24th 3:30 PM at St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church 1800 N. Wisconsin St. Port Washington with Father Patrick Wendt officiating.nbsp; She will be laid to rest next to her husband at St. Maryrsquo;s Cemetery in Port Washington.nbsp; Visitation will be held at the CHURCH on Tuesday the 24th from 1:30-3:30 PM.nbsp; In lieu of flowers memorials suggested to the Friends of Niederkorn Library or the Port Washington Historical Society.nbsp; The Eernisse Funeral Home Port Washington is assisting the family.nbsp; Online condolences may be left at www.eernissefuneralhome.comnbsp; nbsp;br /Service:br /p3:30 PM at St. Peter of Alcantara 1800 N.
