IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael John
Quigley
May 27, 1935 – January 12, 2024
Michael J. (Mike) Quigley, of Cedarburg, went to be with the Lord on the morning of January 12, 2024. He was 88 years old. He was born on May 27, 1935, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, to the late James and Mary (Burns) Quigley.
He graduated from Central Catholic High School in Green Bay and received a business degree from St. Norbert College in De Pere.
On June 6, 1959, Mike was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary (McInnis) in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Together they raised four children. Mike will be remembered for his infectious laugh, kind smile and seeing the good in everyone he met. He enjoyed family camping trips, train travel, day trips to Door County, and attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. In later years, he loved to spend time in Port Washington, watching the boats and the fisherman.
Throughout his career, Mike had a gift for meeting new people and striking up a conversation. He was a salesman for several companies, including H.C. Prange (Green Bay), American Can (Neenah), Burroughs (Manitowoc, Cottage Grove, MN, & Appleton), Valley School Supply (West Bend) where he combined his love of driving his sales territory with taking the scenic route.
His love of people led him to volunteer for the Big Brothers organization for many years, mentoring fatherless boys. And his love of community led him to become City Councilman for West Bend, winning the seat with a flip of the coin. While living in West Bend, Mike and a few other hockey enthusiasts started the West Bend Youth Hockey Association.
For 15 years, Mike and Mary lived north of Green Bay, where they built a beautiful home on Edgewater Beach, on the same property that Mike spent summers on growing up. His love for the water, teaching numerous children to water ski, was shared with his children and grandchildren. He would tell stories of boating to the lighthouse to deliver the Sunday newspaper. Together, he and Mary enjoyed many beautiful sunsets.
In retirement, Mike took his beloved dog, Molly, to visit patients at St. Vincent's Hospital in Green Bay. His love of dogs led him to raise puppies for Leader Dogs for the Blind.
In 2004, Mike and Mary moved to Cedarburg to be closer to family. He enjoyed riding his bike along the Interurban Bike Trail, saying hello to every dog he met. Mike was an active member of St Francis Borgia Catholic Church where he sang in the choir for many years. He also sang with the Cedarburg Senior Chorus.
Mike was also most proud of being a Lion. As a Cedarburg Lion, he became involved with both local and state Lions activities, including the Lion's Camp in Rosholt, where his passion for the Camp's mission was ignited. This led him to become a director for many years. Mike especially loved it when a child from Cedarburg attended the camp. His positive impact is still felt at the Lion's Camp today.
His memory will be cherished by his wife of 64 years, Mary, his daughter, Anne Quigley (David Bilgo) of West Bend, Thomas (Anna) Quigley of Sunnyvale, Texas, Maggie (Donald) Hucko of Cedarburg, James (Charisse) Quigley of Chicago, Illinois. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Robert (Caitlin) and Kathy Quigley, Matthew and Nathan Hucko, Jabari, Giovani, Dominic and Mia Quigley, great grandchildren Johnathan and Elizabeth Quigley. Michael is further survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Thomas and Patrick, as well as other family and friends.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at St. Francis Borgia Church, 1375 Covered Bridge Road, Cedarburg. The family will greet friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the church. He will be laid to rest at Allouez Catholic Cemetery in Green Bay at a later date.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Anita's Gardens in Grafton, WI for their loving care and support over the past three months. They would also like to thank the nurses at Lawlis Family Hospice in Mequon, WI for their gentle care of Mike during his final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike's honor to The Wisconsin Lion's Camp in Rosholt, WI or Leader Dogs for the Blind in Rochester Hills, MI.
