Michael Allan MacLaurin, 78, of Belgium, Wisconsin, passed away at Sharon S Richardson Community Hospice Center in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, surrounded by his siblings on July 8th, 2022, after a 8-month battle with terminal brain cancer.
Michael was born to Robert and Irene (Probst) MacLaurin on February 28, 1944, in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. He graduated from Fort Atkinson High School in the class of 1962. After graduating, he enlisted in the US Army and served during the Vietnam War.
After being honorably discharged he moved back to the Fort Atkinson area and enrolled at UW-Madison where he graduated with a political science degree. He then went on to receive his teaching degree.
This led to meeting the love of his life, Carolyn Birong, in 1971. They married in 1976 and the two had their first and only child, Catherine "Katie" in 1982. For 17 years he taught graduate students as an Instrumentation Specialist and Lab Manager in the Physics department at UW-Milwaukee.
Michael was known for his kind heart, adventurous nature, and elaborate storytelling. He was often called "the idea man" by his family and friends. He had also been known to be a bit of a talker and troublemaker! These traits and so many others made Michael a compassionate and supportive husband, father, son, sibling, and friend with a heart of gold.
Michael is survived by his daughter, Catherine, and four siblings, Gayle Bottlemy, Suzie (Ken) Iverson, Pat (Terry) Ruglitz, and Jim (Trudy) MacLaurin. Michael is preceded in death by his parents and wife.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date for both Michael and his wife, Carolyn, in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. This event will be announced once the date is finalized.
