Mr. Michael Kavanagh, of Sauk Trail Road in the Town of Belgium, passed away at his residence Tuesday morning, January 3, 2017, following his courageous battle with cancer. He was 64 years old. Michael was born in Madison on August 18, 1952, son of Bernard and Donna Foss Kavanagh. On October 16, 1976, he was united in marriage with Shirley M. Kussrow at St. Alexander Catholic Church in Milwaukee. The couple moved to the Belgium area in 1977 to raise their family. Shirley preceded him in death in 2011. Michael was an IT specialist and worked for UW Milwaukee at the Help Desk for 15 years before retiring in 2012. He had a love for the outdoors that included hunting, fishing, golf, and birdwatching.
Michael is survived by his three children: Molly Kavanagh of the Town of Oostburg, Micaela (Carl) Smith of the Town of Wilson and Sean Kavanagh of Evanston, IL, and three grandchildren: Henry and Jacob Smith, and Quinn Cushman. He is further survived by his sister Nancy (Russ) Greenham of Germantown, brothers John (Sue) Kavanagh of Arlington Heights, IL, Tom (Mary) Kavanagh of Williams Bay, and Bill (Ellen) Kavanagh of Milwaukee, step-mother Alvina Kavanagh of Milwaukee, mother-in-law Dorothy Kussrow of Grafton, many nieces & nephews, other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, and father-in-law Robert Kussrow.
An Irish Wake celebrating Michael's life will be held on January 21 at Memories Ballroom, 1077 Lake Drive, Port Washington. There will be a brief service at 5PM, followed by celebrating until 9PM. The Moon Dance Band will play some of Mike's favorite music while guests enjoy some of his favorite snacks.
