MELVIN A. REIF Mr. Melvin Reif of Dekora Street in Saukville passed away Friday morning December 26 2008 at Cedar Lake Home in West Bend.nbsp; He was 88 years old.nbsp; Melvin was born in Reifs Mills a little town in Manitowoc County on March 15 1920 son of Jerome and Josephine Peterson Reif.nbsp; He graduated from Peshtigo High School and helped his family with their smoke house and meat locker business before joining the United States Army in 1942.nbsp; He earned a Bronze Star during his service as an infantryman in Central Europe and the Rhineland before being discharged in 1946.nbsp; On November 15 1944 he was united in marriage with Nora Jean Livermore in Oconto.nbsp; The couple moved to Saukville and Melvin worked at Jerryrsquo;s Cheese Mart and Locker Plant now Blaursquo;s Saukville Meats.nbsp; He retired as a meat smoker in 1971 and went to work at Simplicity in Port Washington.nbsp; He retired from there in 1982. Melvin was a very active member of St. Peterrsquo;s United Church of Christ in Saukville where he participated in the Brotherhood group and helped with things around the building.nbsp; He is also a member of the American Legion Post 470 in Saukville and the IAM Union.nbsp; Mr. Reif enjoyed golf bowling playing sheepshead and bingo and had frequently liked fishing up north in his younger days. He also enjoyed listening to polka music and spending time with his family.nbsp; He is survived by his wife Jean of Saukville their children: Daniel Reif of Saukville Nancy Lanser of Thiensville Mary (Jeff) Olson of West Bend and the late Sharon Reif.nbsp; He is further survived by 8 grandchildren: Teri Jamie Robert Richard and Jackie Reif Jessie (Curt) Person Cortney (Josh) Bordon and Cameron Olson 5 great-grandchildren: McKenna Kia Hailey Cole and Cade.nbsp; Melvin is also survived by one sister Grace (the late Ervin) Finger of Oconto sister-in-law Doris (the late Jerome) Reif of Peshtigo nieces nephews other relatives and many friends.nbsp; He is preceded in death by his daughter Sharon and three brothers: Vernal (the late Hazel) Arnold and Jerome.nbsp; A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30PM on Tuesday December 30th at St. Peterrsquo;s United Church of Christ 166 W. Dekora St. in Saukville.nbsp; The family will receive visitors at the church on Tuesday from 12:30 PM- 1:30 PM.nbsp; He will be laid to rest in Union Cemetery Saukville this coming spring with full military honors.
