Obituary

Mel of "Mel and Dave" passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2020 from complications in her fight with cancer. Her loving family was there with her, supporting her peaceful passing into God's care. "She married me in 1992. Mel, a loving, passionate, caring person—always lifting those around her. She made me a better man." Melissa and David were married at St. Mary Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Little Kohler, WI. Shortly after, they built their dream home together in Waubeka on the Janik Homestead. Melissa was born May 26, 1959 in Port Washington to Roy and Carol Weyker. She loved life and lived large: traveling the world, enjoying nature, and loving her family to the fullest. Mel (Missy) loved working for Bill La Macchia at The Mark Travel Corporation. She was always seeking adventure and she saw so much of the world, often with her best friend Norma Kuchler. Melissa loved any day that she could spend on a beach. Melissa had a creative eye and she always had a project (or two or three) underway. She was a woman of many talents, well known for handmade gifts, spectacular photography, and excellent homecooked meals. She was a crucial member of the National Flag Day Foundation team and made the Annual Valentine's Dinner Auction a memorable night for all guests. She is survived by her husband, David Janik of Fredonia, mother Carol Weyker of Grafton, siblings Laurie (Chris) Janik of Fredonia, Amy (Scott) Johnson of Tucson, AZ, Mary Carol Weyker of Waukesha, Jeffrey Weyker of Brookfield, Terri (Clint) Weninger of Waukesha, sisters-in-law Karen (Bob) Bertram of Crossville, TN, Laure (Peter) Borchardt of Fredonia, brothers-in-law Chris (Laurie) Janik of Fredonia, John (Kerry) Tiegs of Fredonia, and Dan (Dee) McNeil of Tega Cay, SC, eight nieces, twelve nephews, one great-niece, three great-nephews, aunts, uncles, other family, and friends. Melissa was preceded in death by her father Roy Weyker, sisters Sue Jane McNeil and Krista Tiegs, her niece, Elizabeth Johnson, and her father and mother-in-law Jack and Louise Janik. Father Gideon Buya and Father Neil Zinthefer will concelebrate the Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 30 at the St. Mary Foundation chapel in Little Kohler. Visitation will take place on Thursday, October 29 from 4:30-7:00 pm at Eernisse Funeral Home in Port Washington. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting Mel's passions: The National Flag Day Foundation, P.O. Box 55, Waubeka, WI 53021. St. Mary Foundation, W4680 River Road, Fredonia, WI 53021 The impact she made on those around her will last forever. "It is said we become a part of those we associate with, and I will cherish always the part of me that is her."
