When it came to working with his hands, there were few projects Maxwell Charles Savatski couldn't complete.
In his job as a machinist, he excelled at manufacturing precision parts. At home, he completed a variety of renovation projects, including remodeling a kitchen and bathroom, installing a backyard patio and upgrading the landscape.
"Max was very talented. He just knew how to put things together," his sister Macayla Savatski said.
"I even remember him building a potato-shooting gun when he was 10 years old."
Mechanical aptitude was only one of many things family members and friends will remember about Max. He was probably best known for his fun-loving approach to life and outgoing personality.
"Max lit up a room whenever he walked in," his mother Peggy Savatski said. "He was always smiling, always telling a joke." A longtime Ozaukee County resident who most recently lived in Adell, Max died Sunday, Aug. 9, from complications following a recent surgery. He was 28.
The son of Mark and Peggy Savatski, Max was born July 8, 1992, at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Port Washington. He grew up in the Grafton area and attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and John Long Middle School before graduating from Grafton High School in 2011.
Max also attended Milwaukee Area Technical College. For the past two years, he worked with his father at Milwaukee Bearing & Machinery in Menomonee Falls.
"Max was very precise with all the dimensions and finishes in his work and loved to see the quality of the parts coming off machines," his father said. "He was doing a great job for a man his age."
Three years ago, Max bought a house in Adell, where he embraced an array of fixer-upper challenges as a first-time homeowner.
"He put in so much work there and made a lot of improvements. He was very proud of his home," his mother said.
"Max had overcome a few obstacles and challenges in his life and was doing well. He was very happy with where his life was at."
When he wasn't working, Max enjoyed hunting, shooting sporting clays, snowboarding, exercising, going to casinos, attending family gatherings and spending time with his dog Dozer.
Max is survived by his parents Mark and Peggy Savatski of Port Washington; brother Michael (Rachel Schneider) of Sheboygan and their son Jaxen; brother Marc (Lisa) of Saukville and their children, Olivia and Sawyer; sister Macayla of Port Washington; grandparents Don and Carolyn Savatski and Carol Nordengren, all of Port Washington; the love of his life, Emma Wendt; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather John Nordengren.
Memorials in Max's name are suggested to the National Rifle Association and the Donald Trump presidential campaign.
