Obituary

POULL, MARY MARGARET (Nee Weyker) Mary M. Poull, 95, passed away peacefully with family by her side at Lawlis Family Hospice at St. Mary's Hospital on October 28, 2017 after a very short illness. Born September 16, 1922, Mary was the youngest and last surviving sibling of nine children born to John and Mary Weyker of the Town of Knellsville. As a young girl, she worked at a canning factory and then the Chair Factory before marrying Theodore (Ted) A. Poull when he returned home from World War II. They raised three boys in the home they built, and much later also cared for two young grandchildren during the day. She also took care of her aging mother in the duplex. Her family was her life. She was an extremely organized and talented homemaker, canning vegetables from her garden and fruits from her orchard, making kuchens every Saturday morning, and quilting. Her household chores were done on specific days of the week with no excuses, a work ethic she obtained from her German-Luxembourg heritage. She maintained her own home until her death. She was an extremely good cook and everything was made from scratch, and the good china and silver were used at every holiday and special meal—no paper plates allowed. Along with her husband, Mary helped all her sons build their homes. She was also very active in the lives of her grandchildren. Mary was a good sport at everything and fun to be with. If you played Sheepshead against her, you could expect to lose, as many of the card players at both the Port Washington and Grafton Senior Centers will attest to. She played Sheepshead every Tuesday and Thursday at the Senior Centers until she was 94 years old. She played bingo and bowled on leagues into her late 80s. Her husband, Ted, was very active in various woodworking associations, and she traveled with him around the United States displaying his woodworking art. She loved traveling the U.S. from East to West Coast. In her later years, she loved bird watching, going for a ride in the car every day to revisit her old stomping grounds and other sites and going out to eat. She was interested in everything, followed the news intensely, and was a great conversationalist. She also was an avid sports fan—anything sports—but particularly the Green Bay Packers and the Badgers. She truly was a jolly good fellow her entire life. Mary is survived by her boys Ted P. (Judy), Mark "Chico" (Karen), and Robert "Bob" (Nancy); her grandchildren Jacob "Jake" (Candie) and Emilee Rose Poull; and nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Ted; her brothers Elroy, Edgar, Gregor, Lawrence, John, and Alvin; and sisters Anna Kultgen and Helen Large. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, at 5:00 p.m. at St. John XXIII Catholic Parish – St. Peter of Alcantara Church, 1802 N. Wisconsin St., Port Washington, WI 53074. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. A light lunch at the church will follow. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Port Washington on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 9:00 a.m. Memorials to St. John XXIII Catholic Parish – St. Peter of Alcantara Church or Lawlis Family Hospice in Mequon, WI are appreciated.
