Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Catherine Kelly, a cherished mother, devoted healthcare professional, and beloved friend, who peacefully departed this life on July 4, 2026, at the age of 91. Mary was born on April 20, 1935, in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. She led a life marked by compassion, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to helping others.

Mary earned her Associate’s Degree from St. Mary’s in Madison. She dedicated her career to nursing, serving in the Cardiac Care and Rehab unit at St. Michaels Hospital for over 40 years. Her gentle demeanor and nurturing spirit made a lasting impact on countless patients and colleagues. A resident of Cedarburg, Wisconsin, Mary was known for her generosity and warmth, often finding joy in helping those around her. She had a remarkable ability to form deep connections and was loved by many. Mary’s greatest pride and joy were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She found joy in participating in various social groups, where her kindness and spirit shone brightly. Whether she was advocating for caregivers supporting those with Alzheimer’s, engaging in lively discussions at book club, enjoying friendly games of Mahjong, savoring moments with her bloody mary group, or swimming with friends, Mary enriched the lives of everyone around her.

Mary is survived by her children Deborah (Richard) Hunter of Martinez, CA, Colleen (William) Petzke of Cedarburg and Daniel (Ann Widmar) Kelly of Scottsdale, AZ. She is further survived by 8 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, her siblings Jim (Ellie) Froehlke, and Helen Thielen, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack Kelly, and brother-in-law Jim Thielen.

A Memorial Service for Mary will be held at 12 Noon on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Eernisse Funeral Home in Cedarburg (1167 Washington Ave. Cedarburg, Wisconsin 53012). The family will greet guests from 10:30AM until the time of the service at Noon. She will be laid to rest at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Elkhorn, Wisconsin.

Donations to the Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s association are greatly appreciated.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Advocate Aurora Home Hospice for their care and compassion.

As we remember Mary C. Kelly, let us honor her memory by embracing the kindness she instilled in all of us. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
