Marlys J. Herbert of Port Washington, formerly of Belgium and Fond du Lac, passed away early Saturday morning, November 20, 2021, at The Kathy Hospice in West Bend. She was 93 years old.
Marlys was born in Fond du Lac on April 29, 1928. She was the daughter of Ervin and Mabel Barkelar Brandt where she attended local schools, graduating from Goodrich High School, Class of 1946.
Marlys was united in marriage with David Herbert on August 20,1949 at St. Mary's Church Rectory in Fond du Lac WI. She was employed by the Fond du Lac Public Schools until 1953. The couple moved to Port Washington in late summer of 1953 to raise their family. David preceded her in death in 2009.
Mrs. Herbert was a faithful member of First Congregational Church in Port Washington, joining in 1957, where she participated in the choir. She had been the secretary at the church for 18 years, retiring in 1984. She was also a member of the Port Washington Senior Center, Belgium American Legion Post 412 Auxiliary and the Hawthorn Honey's golf group. Marlys was a Past Honored Queen, Job's Daughter, Bethel #3 FDL & past member of Chapter 70, Eastern Star also in FDL. She enjoyed knitting, golfing, playing cards and played with various bridge & sheepshead groups. For many years, Marlys and David wintered in Sun City West, AZ. Above all, Mrs. Herbert loved the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children Brant Herbert (Lisa) of Anthem, AZ, William (Linda) Herbert of Wautoma, Mark Herbert of Sheboygan (Laurie Herbert of Sheboygan) and Julie (Douglas) Decent of West Bend. She is also survived by grandchildren Brandon (Kristine), Justin (Andrea), Nicholas (Jane), Jordan (Alisha), Anthony (Kara), Zachary (Paige), Blake, Brooke (Ian) and Julie (the late Jason). Further surviving are great-grandchildren Kora, Griffin, Blair, Mila, Hanalei, Grayson, Cecilia, Leo, Drew and Dominic. Brother in law Steve Herbert (Melaine) and nieces, Nancy Morris & Mary (Mark) Albrecht. She also leaves behind many cherished and dear friends. Marlys is preceded in death by her parents, husband David, grandson Jason and sister Dolores Stephany.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30am at First Congregational Church, 131 N. Webster St., Port Washington. Pastor Scott McLeod will preside. the family will receive visitors at the CHURCH on Saturday from 10:30am until services at 11:30am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Marlys' name to the First Congregational Church Port Washington, the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
