Mark William Murphy, the man, the myth, the legend lived a beautiful and meaningful life. Mark was born on November 2, 1960, to loving parents Terrence and Helen Murphy; passed into eternal life on October 30, 2024.
Mark is preceded in death by his Father Terrence Murphy and his stepfather Ubaldo Gaudiosi. He is survived by: his sons Terrence and Stephen Murphy and his siblings Cecilia (Daniel) Kim, Regina (Gregory) Kennin, and Christina (Andrew) Garni. Many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces. Mark lived out most of his life in Mequon WI and created a legacy of conservation, friendships, and meaning.
Mark attended Homestead High School and went on to play football at Lawrence University. He then transferred to the University of Colorado and finished his college career at Beloit College, in his beloved state of Wisconsin. After graduating, he joined the family business founded by his father, Dawes Transport. He quickly rose to the position of Vice President, where he enhanced the company's quality of care, commitment, and innovation. Following the sale of the family business, Mark devoted himself to green industries and his passion for land conservation.
Mark was one of the founders of the Ozaukee and Washington County Land Trust and served as a board member for the Mequon Nature Preserve, as well as the Nature Conservancy in Wisconsin and Michigan. Mark's unwavering passion for nature and sports took him on incredible journeys and experiences. Whether he was portaging canoes in the Boundary Waters of northern Minnesota, logging endless miles on his road bike, or skiing deep powder in Fernie, British Columbia, his curiosity about the natural world fueled him. Mark leaves behind one of his most significant contributions; Indian Lake, a true Shangri-La of memories.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 1:00pm on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church -North, 1375 Covered Bridge Rd., Cedarburg, WI 53012. Fr. Patrick Burns will preside. The family will receive visitors at the church from 11:00am-12:50pm. Mark will be laid to rest privately at St. Francis Borgia Cemetery, Mequon.
